My Valiant Story - From Captain N to VEI
My original experience reading Valiant comics goes all the way back to the Nintendo comics that Valiant used to publish. I don't remember in what comic exactly this story was (if anyone can let me know, I'd appreciate it), because I was very young, but I think it was an issue of Captain N because the story feature Princess Zelda and Samus Aran trapped on a prison planet. I remember the issue because Samus Aran come across as a total badass, and this is probably why I have such a fondness for the character to this day.
Fast forward to my teenage years, and I was rediscovering my love of comics through landmark series like Watchmen, Kabuki, The Sandman, and Grendel. Searching through back issue bins at a local used book store, I found a beat up copy of Harbinger: Children of the Atom TPB and something about the iconic image on the cover and remembering an article I once read in Wizard about how cool Harbinger was convinced me to buy it. Boy am I ever glad that I did.
Harbinger continues to be one of my favorite series of all time, and I haven't even collected all of the original VH1 issues (you hardcore Valiant guys would be embarrassed by how piecemeal and lacking my Valiant collection really is), but I still love that TPB and thank the Lord that I found out about Valiant Comics.
I'm still interested in collecting the old stuff, and I'm currently picking up all of the new Valiant comics. Although I've decided to read X-O Manowar in trades rather than single issues, I feel like I'm making up for that by picking up both the trades and singles of Harbinger.
That's my Valiant story.

Nice. I was just looking at a bunch of those old Nintendo comics yesterday from Sonic Dan's stash.

Thanks, though I think a year is still fairly new considering how long some people have been on these boards for.

Re: My Valiant Story - From Captain N to VEI
Yeah it wasn't until much later that I realized those Nintendo books were Valiant comics. Although looking back on them now, they had the same colouring style as other Valiant books of the time. Someday I'd like to buy a few and see how they hold up. I'm guessing Captain N comics are about as bad as the cartoon is.Daniel Jackson wrote:Neat that you started out with the old Nintendo books, I liked them too.

The coloring and art is what caught my eye as well. The stories are nothing particularly memorable though.Xtianhardy wrote:Yeah it wasn't until much later that I realized those Nintendo books were Valiant comics. Re: My Valiant Story - From Captain N to VEI
I never saw any of the Nintendo books by Valiant. I came to Valiant for the superhero's. I remember what inspired me to check out Valiant was a Wizard magazine article about X-O being 'like Conan with Iron Man's armor'. I was never sorry to have checked Valiant out!
And welcome!
