My Valiant Story - New to comics!
Here's my 'Valiant Story'
Back when I was a kid (around '99) I was introduced to a game called 'Shadowman' over at a friend's house. We played this game on his N64, and I was fascinated by the mixture of the occult and the storyline of the game, not to mention the character himself and his supporting cast.
Around November time last year I was at my girlfriend's, and she pulled out her N64 that she'd forgotten all about. We played a few games, and when she got tired of it she left me to the N64 - because I'd seen in her pile of cartridges: Shadowman. I was dying to play it again after all these years and see if it could still hold my attention now. Whilst I was playing it and recalling how much I enjoyed it, I recalled my friend telling me all those years ago that there was a Shadowman comic book, and something vague about this character called 'Bloodshot', who "has a red spot on his chest and carries a ton of guns".
When I got back to my place a few days later I decided to turn on eBay to see if there were any of the comics floating about still that I could check out.
Long story short, I bought a 'job lot' featuring the majority of Acclaim's Shadowman run, and I also put some decent effort into tracking down the issues that were missing too, and weren't neccesarily easy (or cheap) to find.
I also realised that there was a 'retro' series of Shadowman that I had no idea about - so I found another job lot of those that consisted of almost the entire run, and put it on my Christmas list (as the only request - I frustrate my family every year like that!). It was late, but my brother bought it for me as a Christmas present.
In the meantime I got talking to a particular eBay seller regarding a certain issue of the series, who lives in my town. We went out for coffee, and he told me all about Valiant as a company and some of its characters, and whilst searching the net for more filler issues to complete the set a day or two later, I found Valiantfans.com!
I recently became a tiny bit ill and had a few days off work, and during that time, because TV hurt my eyes and gave me a headache after a short period of time, I read almost the entire run of Valiant's original Shadowman series. Since then, I've read everything Shadowman from front to back, and have also discovered their 2012 run of the series, almost as if by Fate!
I also read some other comics by free download from Comixology, and really enjoyed the retro Bloodshot issue #1, and also quite liked the 2012 Bloodshot issue #1, so since then I've been reading the contemporary Bloodshot series, and will hopefully soon be acquiring the retro series too
Having gone to the effort to indulge my nostalgic itch and find and pick up all of these Valiant comics, and having reached 100 posts here on this forum, I think it's safe to say that I'm a qualified Valiant Fan!
And as a possible interesting side note, I don't read any other superhero comics/brands - no Marvel or DC for me - I'm a Valiant Man!

Honestly, I haven't really read anyone else's 'My Valiant' story, but I guess that I'm one of possibly only a few people who've come into the comics via the old Acclaim games. Whichever way, I'm sure it's all good ^_^

Have you seen/heard of the 'Return to Deadside' project? I think it's pretty grungey at the moment, but we'll just have to wait and see eh?Daniel Jackson wrote:Loved the Shadowman game as well. Can't wait for another installment.

Oh, and did you ever see Shadow Man 2: Second Coming on the Playstation 2? It was very different from the first game, but still entertaining nonetheless

I was really disappointed when they didn't make the second game available for Nintendo. I didn't want to spend the money at the time for an extra system just to play the game though.Shadowman99 wrote:Have you seen/heard of the 'Return to Deadside' project? Thanks for sharing the story, and it is cool that there are even now new readers coming to the medium, and a sign that the new VALIANT is working that among other stuff that you have stayed.
