New to Valiant: My Story
Hey everyone, my name is Scott. Growing up, I was always a big fan of comic books, mostly Marvel. I loved Claremont's run on the X-Men, Thor, Avengers, West Coast Avengers, etc. I graduated from high school in 1991 and as sometimes happens, you feel the need to be cool and grow up and give up some of your favorite hobbies. I was also a bit disillusioned by the constant glut of variants, chases, and chromium comics everyone was producing. As my interest in comics was winding down, I remember seeing some of the early Valiant titles, like Magnus, X-O Manowar and Turok. Unfortunately, I never picked any of them up.
A couple months ago, I was looking around and decided to see what was going on in the comics scene. i did a bunch of reading and heard that Valiant had began their universe again in 2012. Marvel and DC didn't seem to hold much interest for me any more when I saw how every year these big companies are doing a reboot, or a whole new renumbering campaign to draw in new readers. I wasn't looking for gimmicks, but just good, solid storytelling. The more I read about the universe, the more intrigued I became. So, on June 5th, I bought digital copies of the first 2 trades of X-O Manowar. It was incredible and I was hooked. Over the next couple months, I've bought a bunch of digital trades of everything from X-O, to Bloodshot, Harbinger, Rai, Ninjak, Archer and Armstrong, Shadowman, etc. I have a local shop about a half hour away, but they don't sell any Valiant comics, so I've been buying all digital through comixology. To be honest, my eyesight isn't as good as it used to be so the backlight on my tablet helps a lot for reading. Since, I've started reading through this wonderful universe, I feel for the first time in a long time like a kid again. I have a sense of wonder and excitement about what is going to happen next. The storytelling is incredible and I love how everything ties together.
Thanks for having me. I look forward to making some new friends as I discover everything Valiant has to offer.
