Here's a nice starter collection. Actually, there's no need to collect.
It's the shipping that get's ya. Read the details.
What do you think it's really worth?

I don't know what you guys are complaining about the shipping...UPS calculates out to around 49 and the other two options are in the upper 20's...whats the problem...seems like a decent deal to this point.
Why waste time learning, when ignorance is instantaneous?

I think they're referring to the red print not the shipping calculator. Looks like total shipping is $110.....still that is one heck of a collection and I noticed at least 2 golds in there.

That's per box - he says there are four boxes! He has now added a claim to his auction, he says that the boxes only weigh around 30 pounds, so one could expect around $110 in shipping charges if using UPS. Right now, with a $48 bid, that's still "worth it" if someone wanted to rescue this collection. (IMO, of course.)

So, with no real rarities (Reds, Pinks, etc.) what does every one think would be a price where this becomes "not worth it?" Including cost of shipping, is a bid of $100 still worth it? $150???

well is it worth it depends on a couple of things...the grades on the pre-unity books...

If all of the preunity books are in NM shape paying $2 each for them wouldnt be a bad deal. So that puts you @ 100. Then toss in the last issues that are hard to find, BS, Turok, and EW. A couple of meaningless golds...If you could get the guy to toss the rest of it and just ship you the preunities you could really make out well with a $100 or so bid...

There is probably less than 100 books in that lot that really anyone would want. So what is shipping on 100 books? $20-30...

So if you could get it for $130-150 shipped I would think that you did alright...even at $150 it works out to less than $3 each for preunities and you get some last issues for free...not bad...

He cancelled the auction stating he had overestimated the weight and shipping charges.

The new starting bid is $100 or you can buy it now for $380.
His estimated shipping price for all 4 boxes is $110.
That starts things off at $210.

Still worth it?

I noticed the re-list - and at this point, it is (IMO) "toeing the line" between worth it and not-worth it.

Since when has eBay started sending e-mails when an item is re-listed that one is watching???

If I had seen this auction a couple of months ago, I would have jumped on it in a heart beat, and I'm from Canada so the shipping alone is $165.00 US.

Instead, I've placed larger orders with different sellers. Shipping to Canada from the US is expensive to begin with. The shipping is in 75% of the case, more expensive than the comics I'm ordering.

I've spent more than $450.00 US and am still 98 comics from a complete collection.

The person who does not have a Valiant collection and gets this for around $150 - $200 US + shipping should be very happy with the deal.

Not a bad deal at all for $250. The thing that bugs me is that out of all the early books only the Rai's are shown and you couldn't pick condition out from those pics. Also no Harbinger listed, or did I just miss 'em?

Recently, apparently, since I've been getting them too.

If it's a new feature then I like it. Hopefully it is something that can be turned off though...

And next time they do something like this, a little advance notice would be nice as well.

I agree, and they are all bagged and boarded. Fair enough price and you get some golds.
