Thank you for the reply. I picked up a couple of lower grades.

Anyone have a CGC 9.8 or CGC 9.8 SS for sale?

Main interest is the regular version, not the variant or retailer review.

Good luck in your search. There are only 6 CGC 9.8 of the regular cover and zero Signature Series 9.8. My guess is that most people who submitted those wanted them for their own collections.

Great point

Uggh, perhaps all them hoarders need to get some graded :hm:

I guess the Signature series is out of the question since it doesn't exist :?

Here are the CGC numbers for the 3 variants. You can click on any of them to see the historical submission info.

I know a VERY prominent Valiant collector that has been looking for a raw 9.8 candidate. Cant find it.

for whatever reason, hard hard book to find.

Betting that if you snagged a quality copy of a 9.6, one that may have been slabbed a few years ago, a pressing could do the trick and push you to a 9.8.

I know there is a place on the CGC page where you can check the numbers of a CGC slabbed book to find out basic information on it. Finding one that might have been sent in as long as 2015 might just bode well for you. The down side of that (and maybe the most common sense one) is that many of those books were pressed before slabbing. Depending on your level of commitment, if you do find an older slabbed book, paying the $5 fee to see what the markups are for that book might be worth it.

Still, it might be shot for you, and you could get lucky

I've been pretty successful utilizing this tactic, but it only really works on books that were submitted before pressing became a common thing. Dunno just how common it is today, but I would imagine on pricier books, that has to be the norm (it is for me). I've pulled a handful of 9.4's and pushed them to a 9.6, latest was a SIg Series Shadowman #5 1:125. Purchased the book for around $100, that should push the book a decent deal higher.
