Serra Angel #1 (bagged with oversized card)
The Shadow Mage TPB #1 (bagged with countersheet)
The Shadow Mage TPB #2 (bagged with countersheet)
Urza-Mishra War #1 (bagged with cards)
Urza-Mishra War #2 (bagged with cards)

Newstand Variants

Antiquities War #3 - Newsstand (just comic, didn't come bagged)

Fallen Empires 1 - Cover Variant Newsstand (yes this newsstand version actually has a different cover than the direct version) (Bagged with booster pack)
Fallen Empires 2 - Cover Variant Newsstand (yes this newsstand version actually has a different cover than the direct version) (bagged with booster pack)
Ice Age 2 - newsstand

This list is in itself a great compilation of odd items. Will use it to check what I'm missing.

I assume you have Ice Age 1 as a newsstand? I need confirmation that newsstands exist for issues 1 & 2 for a list in another thread.

Here is an even better list with photos

I do not not believe that Ice Age 1 exists as a newstand book. According to the link above there is no Ice Age 2 newstand but I read elsewhere that there was. In my list of issue I have a question mark beside it. I am thinking it does not exist as the list in the link I provided is quite exhaustive (including the variations of cards/counters put in the books. I do not play magic or have anything magic related outside of Acclaim so my knowledge on magic is limited.

I do have every direct book in that list that I linked to (or it is on my want list above) and have confirmed that they all exist. I have not been able to confirm all whether some of the newsstand issues came bagged or not. Some newsstand (and direct) books were bagged but other issues were not bagged. Sometimes cards were bound books but then the next issue the card would be in a bag with the book

Admittedly I never actually played Magic either, but I always found these comics a lot of fun to collect. I'm pretty sure I have an Ice Age #1 with the newsstand sticker over the upc.

Can you double check or do you have a photo of it? It would be quiet the find if you do and likely worth a lot to certain Magic fans.

It is beloved that Magic The Gathering The Shadow Mage #1 is the only first issue with a Newsstand sticker over the UPC.

I dug it out, it does have a sticker. I bought it last year from a seller who described it as a newsstand edition, but honestly I've always been a little unsure in these situations. It's a upc sticker over the direct edition box, so I feel like it's entirely possible it could just be a "one-off" rather than an indication of an actual newsstand edition. I'll post up a pic once I figure out how to do that.

That is interesting. I would love to see a picture of it (I find for this board https://postimages.org/ works best for images as you do not need to have an account.

I wonder if it is a different UPC sticker than the one used for Shadow Mage #1. It wouldn't seem like the type of book where it would be worth transferring a sticker on to. If it is a unique sticker thus potentially indicating a new variant some of the Magic collectors would likely be very interested in it.

Neat. That looks like a sticker on top of a sticker?

Does anyone have a scan of the Shadow Mage #1 newsstand with the UPC sticker on it to compare.

I have 2 of these and the stickers are the same on both. I also have 2 of the Ice Age 1 and the stickers on those are both the same as the one posted above

Speculation is that these stickers were used by bookstore chains who would have direct edition accounts and then sticker the books with their own barcodes.
Bookstores with lots of locations would allow for the same stickers to pop up in collections all over the country.
Books-A-Million, Barnes & Nobles, Hastings, Waldenbooks, etc.
