Well poop. The first time I get a ticket is 2020. They postponed that ticket until 2021. I don't have an email yet, but I'm hoping that ticket gets postponed until 2022. This con is on my bucket list, and It's taken me 10+ years of trying to get one!

SDCC Lite still has tickets for sale ... it's for the three days after Thanksgiving. One benefit is it gets you into Returning Registration for 2023 con.

I'm going despite the harsh winter conditions in San Diego that time of year.

So a few of us went to SDCC Lite ... definitely a pared-down version of the Comic-Con experience but I assure you we had a great time. The floor itself was a pale shadow of the summer con and there was next-to-nothing outside the show floor. Maybe a tenth of the usual crowd inside and a perhaps a hundredth of what you see outside. But that gave us plenty of room to move around and San Diego is always a fun town.

So here are five weird things that happened last weekend.

No. 5. I was able to get a room at the Omni, a hotel I have always wanted to land for SDCC. Nice! One afternoon we walked out of the con, crossed the train tracks and got dinner at the Tin Fish, a restaurant that is usually far too crowded to ever get a table on a con day. Food was great, too ... I had fish and chips which was a lot less greasy than if you ordered that somewhere other than California. And then it was a 100-foot walk to my hotel. I have never had an experience of convenience like that at SDCC, and I liked it.

No. 4. I was sitting at a table near the edge of the food court debating with a friend whether or not I would buy a CGC 9.0 first appearance of Squirrel Girl for $80. I did. But before that a dude in a suit walked up to me and said "A bit of history. This is the exact table where I sat a few years ago and had a deep conversation with Francis Ford Coppola." And then he walked away while I counted off a few twenties.

No. 3. I found a Spider-Man comic I liked and asked the guy in the booth if he could come down on the price a little bit. Turns out he wasn't the owner because he went over to a guy sitting in the corner and whispered something to him. That guy then summoned as much scorn as a human can muster and barked at me "It's a *SQUEE* Spider-Man! No!" I bought one somewhere else.

No. 2. I went out for drinks one night with several board members and a couple more were going to hook up with us after a bit. But I couldn't figure out the name of the bar we were in, just that it had a picture of an anchor on the front of the menu. They found us anyway. Later I was in the bathroom at the Hard Rock when some dude came in and said "We've got to do something about the Jews," and then turned to another board member and asked him if he had any weed.

And No. 1: On the Occasionally Annual Valiant Fans SDCC Pub Crawl we picked a bar that had a bouncer out front dressed as Ahsoka Tano who was swinging a light saber. In the Gaslamp a lot of the bars have chairs and tables out in the street (ah that San Diego weather) and the city sidewalk basically cuts through. A five-foot table hobo who looked kind of like the Southern Baptist version of Jesus (except he was holding a 1.5 liter bottle of Sutter Home) stopped in front of us and started screaming that we should suck his dick (after a few different riffs on the same theme, a fellow board member shouted at him to "Whip that *SQUEE* out, you coward!"). At this point Ahsoka Tano put down the light saber and started zapping the hobo with a cattle prod. He ran off post haste. Best. Night. Ever.
