Kroq 106.7 in Los Angeles is promoting the heck out of this. I don't think I've ever heard a radio commercial for a comic book convention before in my life. I guess the thing it means is it's getting more mainstream isn't it? Lol

I don't even know if he does that anymore at shows. :hope: But that's kinda my holy grail item for cons. I don't really "do" lines, but I'd be willing to wait if I knew I was getting a Jim Lee sketch. Wonder if it'll have to be DC related? Hmmm.....
Elveen, Doc, and Dinosaur, I'll see ya there :P

I've seen Jim Lee sketches that he has done at cons, so I know he does sketch (or at least quick -ish sketches, I dont' think he does commissions). I know it's possible.
I don't even want a commission. Just a quickie sketch by the best comic book artist ever (IMO) would be all I need! :cloud9:
And dinner sounds great! Possible Sat night?

From the information they are giving us and from what I have seen I think (really hoping) that the crowds are going to be huge.

I'm expecting (maybe, honestly, really, um hoping) for Wondercon like crowds.
I think that this show (with the time of the year, the location) can become a top 5 national con. I hope so.

I agree it has a great chance being the last in Los Angeles. It can become a destination for those that miss the others, I.e. Long Beach, San Diego, Wonder Con etc.

It is already heads above long beach.
IMO, if was in charge of Comikaze, my two goals would be:
Get everyone in the doors smoothly and quickly.
Get easy-ish access to the big stars.

I think that it's time in the calendar and it's location- Comikaze can become a major national show.

I certainly hope so.

Based on going to LBCC the past two years, and Comikaze only 1 time, last year, Comikaze blows LBCC off the map. The guest list this year is outstanding. Pretty huge in terms of comic creators. I guess the media guest list is pretty cool too? Not my thing though.

The attendance does not compare either. LBCC is a medium show (and actually, maybe a notch below medium). Comikaze is a big to large show, with a chance to become a mega show.

But it seems to me that comic cons are exploding.
I heard that Salt Lake Comic Con had over 100,000 peeps!!

I was only using LBCC in the way that it is a show. It does not come close to others. I think that people go to smaller shows like LBCC because it is easier. But if life is busy they will normally just shrug and say "I will go to the next one." ComiKaze is the last show of the year so more people try to hit it. Being in Los Angeles is a huge boost as well! Cons are reporting record attendance every where. Even as bad a s LBCC was even they reported gains. Bigger just means more. People always want more! Lol.

Alright, 4 days away. What's the headcount? Who's going, and what days?
I'll be there, not sure what days though... Hoping Saturday at the very least. Might be able to swing Sunday with the family too.

I wonder if they are worried about the attendance. I have been seeing 10 and 20% notices. Does that mean sales are slower than expected? :? I won't be there sadly but too much going on.

I think they thought they might bigger groups because of Halloween, and that may have been a mistake. We will see. I am hoping for a big turnout because I would like to see a successful show in L.A. for many more years!

LA can't have sports teams. Or conventions apparently.
I mean, it's definitely not sold out. That's not saying that there won't be large amounts of people. Who knows what attendance is? Or the cap?
Either way, great guests, and I hope to have a good time!

Since I have been a bit of gloom and doom here I wanted to offer this snippet by THE Michael Davis. Now if you don't know him, Google him. Seriously we comic aficionados need to know who historical figures are, regardless of how old or young they are! This is a article he wrote for Bleeding Cool so you can read the whole thing there with him talking about NYCC vs. SDCC, but this snippet relates to some good feelings/news regarding this thread....

"Regardless of my past dealings with the convention, I want NYCC to succeed. It’s in my city and they are good for the industry. They and every other pop culture event have a ways to go before they can claim to be on a par with SDCC. For my money, Stan Lee’s Comikaze is the convention with any hope of ever doing what SDCC has."

Comikaze posted on instagram their spot on the channel 9 news today.

So that is good.
