:o

But......but.......

THE GREEN LAMA rules! He can fly, he has super strength and invulnerability, and has even summoned the ghosts of the dead to fight evil! Jethro Dumont (how can you not like a hero with the first name "Jethro"?) travelled to Tibet for post graduate work, after 10 years there of meditation, he becomes an ordained Lama and returns to the U.S. to fight crime!

I can't figure out why there hasn't been a movie made yet. :?

Now that would just be silly.....the first 643 were enough. And besides only 4 of them were truly original. :P

Where do I know the name 'Green Lama' from? :hm: :?

I am sure I have heard it before as in an old-school character.

Anyway, does this mean that Dark Horse considers the Green Lama and Magnus equally obscure?

Very old-school. First appeared in the pulps back in April 1940, first comics appearance was December 1940. I don't know that his true last appearance was May 1946, but that was the end of his own series.

He has been recently resurrected in some reprint books, but to my knowledge there hasn't been any new material.

Nah, they're both considered "classic" heroes. I'm not sure why they picked THE GREEN LAMA though. He's about as obscure as they could get.

Looking at the series on Dark Horse's web site, I think I'd like to put these together..... :hm:

In order, there's
Hellboy
Bone
Magnus
Marv (Sin City)
Conan (BWS style)
Groo
THE GREEN LAMA

Kinda pricey, but I really like the Spirit that I got from them.

I'm not going to defend these mini-statues or figures, or whatever they are too much, as I know I'm in the tiny minority here. But what DH is trying to do is emulate the Superman Syrocco statue, seen here. These are Super-rare ( :P ) and generally bring $3,000-$5,000 apiece. DH kept the style of the 1940's offering, which I think is really cool.

Here's the rest, just fyi.

I think they really nailed Bone and Groo, but the Conan is a little static for my taste. Any-hoo.....it's official. I'm looking for these now.

Actually, what irritated me was not so much the look of the Magnus statue as the marketing. It was supposed to have a booklet on Magnus and all it has is a little paper saying that it was designed by Dark Horse.

Agree.

Just like we capitalize "VALIANT" automatically on here, I think we should make any reference to The Green Lama actually green in a large font and bold. The Green Lama just don't seem to get the props he ought to, what with being a Golden Age character and all.

So come on all you Green Lama fans out there! Jump on the bandwagon and get The Green Lama in the right color/size/type!

.

What the...? "VARIANT" (but spelled with an "L" instead of the "R") didn't come out capitalized, even though I typed it with the caps lock on.

Has something weird happened? :hm:

No, he's a LAma, not a LIma! As in "His Holiness the Dalai Lama" you know, like the Tibetan Monks? There was an earlier post that explained his abilities and his origin which included the trip to Tibet.
