they're designer art toys. They're designed by artists (fine artists) and are collected by colletors (not really meant for kids). There are numbered sets, limited editions, etc.

They are a lot more popular on the coasts, as well as in Mexico, Japan, and Europe. Most big cities have shops that sell them along with 'underground' designer clothing. (i.e. Plastic Chapel in Denver).

Theres a shop in Metro detroit that specialty is these...packed with all them! REALLY great stuff..that can get expensive, QUICKLY! :o

for sure. If you're already hooked on comics, I wouldn't suggest getting into these, as it can be a similar addiction. :P I only dabble myself, but i have some friends who are obsessed.
