Interesting that the 'Nunjas' believe they're connected to Lilith.

Re: Archer & Armstrong #3 - BOOK DISCUSSION
I can't draw stick figures so take my opinion for what that is worth but how do you use arrows with such flamboyancy and not draw blood?
I can see them maybe not wanting to go all Bloodshot up in this beyotch but...it's those kinds of attentions to detail that are missing in this title that bother me.
Some interesting plot points but over-all this is still the title that I am not "feeling it" on.

The last page was a little shocking and a little hilarious.

Why is Archer essentially "undamaged" by the arrow through the gut?

I kinda got that impression too, but the Swastikas looked like they were being used in their original Buddhist positions.greg wrote:The last page was a little shocking and a little hilarious.

So, new question...
Is Ivar using the assembled (probably not complete, alternate-type) Boon to appear to Archer?
Possible clue: The coloring of Ivar's words matches the color of the Boon.

Re: Archer & Armstrong #3 - BOOK DISCUSSION
I really liked this book. Good continuation. Lots of surprises. Even though it was hinted at that Archer would have a run-in of sorts with Mary-Maria, I still was shocked and wanted to call the boyfriend to yell "holy crap!" when I saw the first panel with Mary-Maria and the sisters. Also was surprised to see them use all of the other cult kids so soon. I was expecting to see them later in the series in more of the final battle/free-for-all with all the various groups trying to get the boon.
They did a good job portraying the expressions or Archer, Mary-Maria, and Tommy.
The final scene with the moustachioed monks also was a surprise. So what's powering the boon? Cannot wait for Eternal Warrior and the Geomancer to grace the pages!
Interesting Ivar theory. Also interesting how only Archer can see him.

Re: Archer & Armstrong #3 - BOOK DISCUSSION
I liked the issue. It's definitely over the top in some ways, but I think it is settling into its own groove.
Someone else posted that they hated the art in the issue, but I didn't see anything I didn't like about it other than the flat backgrounds in several panels. It's ok at times, but may be a bit overused here.
As far as the arrow, I would say it passed clean through Archer, lessening the effects. Three possibilities here as well: 1) Mary-Maria positioned the shot so as to cause minimal damage, 2) Obie, given all of his skills, positioned his body in such a way as to absorb the arrow without it hitting anything vital (though I'd think he could have just caught it like the sword last issue), and/or 3) Obie is skilled in meditations that allow him to decrease his pain levels.
I am intrigued by the Lilith thing...it's kind of similar to True Blood this past season where Lilith is the mother of Vampires.
And still curious about Ivar's status. Is he on another plane of existence? Does he have mental abilities we haven't seen before?

Re: Archer & Armstrong #3 - BOOK DISCUSSION
Liked the book. Love the art. The facial expressions are amazing in every issue.
Yeah, Archer didn't seem too fazed at being shot through by an arrow. Speaking of which, the arrow in Mary's crossbow is full size, but the arrows in Aram's eyes look kinda small...
The Nazi monks are perfectly in keeping with this book's crazy "Sect global conspiracy" theme. It's a lighthearted book, crazy twists are to be expected.

I enjoyed the book. Like all the other Valiant titles, it's progressing well and shows the Valiant line is worth investing your time with.
I suspect Oliver Hardy would vehemently disagree.Zaphod wrote:I'd be on board if those monks didn't have "Hitler" mustache's.MarrowMan wrote:I kinda got that impression too, but the Swastikas looked like they were being used in their original Buddhist positions.greg wrote:The last page was a little shocking and a little hilarious.

That's because Aram is obese. He makes objects look smaller from a certain perspective.jmatt wrote: Yeah, Archer didn't seem too fazed at being shot through by an arrow. Speaking of which, the arrow in Mary's crossbow is full size, but the arrows in Aram's eyes look kinda small...

Re: Archer & Armstrong #3 - BOOK DISCUSSION
Overall I didn't really like this book.
The art is solid and there were some funny lines...but just not feeling the dialogue, plot of the characters so far. I am actually really worried that this book is going to be used to introduce my favorite Valiant character (Eternal Warrior).
I hope it gets better with time.

Re: Archer & Armstrong #3 - BOOK DISCUSSION
This was my fave so far of the A & A run. What I thought would take two issues has waited until the third. The level of humor is back in there finally. It's not original run stuff, but it certainly better than the back half.
It will get there.

I think one thing that may be contributing to a "slow start" for some is that FVL may be trying too hard not immitate/duplicate his Incredible Herculese run. Personally, I loved his IH run. It was quirky and fun, but with real relationships between the characters and badass moments inbetween. But there are definitely a lot of similarities between the characters in the two books, so perhaps he is too conscious of trying to make it different from that. This may be contributing to him taking some time in finding his flow and appropriate voices for the characters.kevinbastos wrote:This was my fave so far of the A & A run. Of course I have enjoyed it from Issue 1, but one of my few quibbles is the believablity/voices of the characters at times.

Oddly enough, there have been many women, long past the days of WWII, who have adorned their lady-parts with the Hitler stache.....And Oliver Hardy would be proud, if he knew (Sorry, it tickles my funny bone to bring up Hardy when conversations veer to Hitler's mustache).

Armstrong acts like a big dolty idiotic buffoon, but I sense deep down, it's all a feign and he's quite brilliant, c'mon he's 10 millenia old.
