Re: Shadowman Dr Mirage preview on CBR
I love Patch's work, but EW, Shadowman, Kay, Mirage, Hard Corps...a lot of similar design elements.
They're not bad by any means, just very "superhero", which is not traditionally VALIANT's thing.
Aja's designs for the first wave were much more realistic/world outside your window.
Mirage looks hot as hell, but would anyone actually wear that to a police station who wasn't being booked for prostitution?

Man, I'm so excited for this month's issue. A bunch of new interesting-looking characters.
The art looks top-notch as usual.

Agree completely. Zircher's art is VERY good, but also very much superhero-ish. Personally not a big fan of superhero outfits that don't make any sense.

There is an explanation for just that, although it's implicit rather than explicit in the book itself.BugsySig wrote:

Re: Shadowman Dr Mirage preview on CBR
I should know better than to doubt your reasoning, Justin. As I have read some more solicits it sounds like she might have come to the police station directly from her television gig. But I guess all (or most) will be revealed tomorrow. Looking forward to itJustinJordan wrote:There is an explanation for just that, although it's implicit rather than explicit in the book itself.BugsySig wrote:

Re: Shadowman Dr Mirage preview on CBR
Ha, no worries. But yes, that she came directly to the police station from her being "on the job" where she's expected to wear that outfit*, is why she's wearing it. I debated whether or not to make that more explicit in the text, but as Warren and Patrick could tell you, I lean heavily towards implying rather than saying when I can. Sometimes waaaaay too much.
Which is especially amusing because we do spend a lot of time working out the internal logic of all this stuff. So I have in my head, for instance, an organizational chart of the Bretheren, the contents of Jack's gris gris, and how Jack's parents ended up together, amongst other stuff. The tricky bit for me is getting enough of that mythology on the page without drowning the story.
*It actually has other uses, too, but not relevant to this bit.

Re: Shadowman Dr Mirage preview on CBR
That didn't go at all the way I expected. Looking at the preview without dialogue, I thought the big guy would start crying when Dr. Mirage brought out the bunny because it was his and he'd lost it somehow. But instead a ghost shows up. Meh. I'd rather have seen a huge convict with HATE tattooed on his knuckles blubbering like a baby.

Re: Shadowman Dr Mirage preview on CBR
You know, I've been wondering about the gris gris and how they might come into play in the story if they were further explored. So I'm really glad to hear that you've been giving it some elaborate thoughts too. Frankly I'm interested to see your final thoughts on them in the book when you wrap your mind around how exactly you to want implement their use. It might also add some more depth to the character. Always good to see you around, Justin.JustinJordan wrote:Which is especially amusing because we do spend a lot of time working out the internal logic of all this stuff. I think that's the way to go. Besides, if you reveal to much you'd never get to read our ridiculous comments or speculation.JustinJordan wrote:Ha, no worries. I also liked how you slipped that line into #4 where Jack says, "I'm the one dressed like a superhero." Even though you described the Shadowman costume process to us here, I think that little tidbit would have been enough to lead me in the same direction.
I read the whole first arc last night to prep for #5 today...can't wait!

Re: Shadowman Dr Mirage preview on CBR
Love what you, Patch and the whole creative team have done with Shadowman and definitely agree that all the mythology and mystery behind the characters need to come about gradually throughout the series - I can't wait to see how everything unfolds. One element that I would love to see more of is a real sense of tragedy and struggle with Jack - I'm sure this will be explored more in the future as the dust settles and the burden of being Shadowman is fully realized. I'd love to get more of a sense of what his life was like growing up without his parents - what struggles he endured etc.JustinJordan wrote:

Also ... please give me a wink if Sandria Darque re-imagining is in the works and if she will be making an appearance soon...?
