I enjoyed the issue... liked the idea of a Shadowman/X-O rivalry, and really wasn't expecting Komandar Bloodshot to show up aand assist in taking Jack down. I also liked the Baba Yaga origin, and hope that character, out of all of the Red Brigade, gets explored further!
One complaint... the scene where all the missiles are flying at the Statue of Liberty.... cartoony. Like they should have had a Warner Bros "ACME MISSILE COMPANY" on them, or something.

I would have to agree.Keith wrote:One complaint... the scene where all the missiles are flying at the Statue of Liberty.... cartoony. Like they should have had a Warner Bros "ACME MISSILE COMPANY" on them, or something.
Overall a good issue. Gil's art stepped up a notch, too.

I agree on the cartoony scene, though not as bad as the grizzly bear he drew in Book of Death. I know Gill has his fans but I don't think he's polished enough yet for this level, especially when Ryp is drawing the back up story, the contrast is stark.jmatt wrote:I would have to agree.Keith wrote:One complaint... the scene where all the missiles are flying at the Statue of Liberty.... cartoony. Another poor Shadowman offering from VEI. Not familiar with Wilson as a writer but this one shot didn't grab my interest at all. That said I do acknowledge its very difficult to have impact with the confines of a one shot.
The back up story was very good, so I guess Kindt shows how you can grab the readers attention with just a few pages to play with!
Stalinverse seems to be the opposite of Book Death, the main Divinity III story is excellent but the one shots not so good whereas BOD main story wasn't weak but the one shots were outstanding.
Main story 2/5
Back up story 4/5

Re: Divinity III: Shadowman & TBONS #1 Discussion
Was just 'ok' for me. I need to reread I think. Felt largely like a generic book, hardly Shadowman centric at all - basically a 'insert Valiant character' fighting two of the well know characters in the Valiant U in XO and Bloodshot. oh, we did get a little bit of Jack not wanting to bring out the Shadowman but really, not enough for this to be a 'Shadowman' tie-in book...just felt generic...

I enjoyed this one-shot very much. I think it showcased what a force Shadowman can be while keeping it somewhat fresh. A solid 3/5 for me.

I thought this was pretty good, although, I felt it probably should have been released before the XO one-shot.

I liked it.
I thought that it was one of the best portrayals of Shadowman from modern Valiant.
I hate the way Kindt portrays the Deadside. He just portrays it as another magic realm with various magic creatures. Some of them are even nice.
I like when it is portrayed as a realm of dead and cursed spirits and souls.
The author did that in this one-shot.
I would rather read a Shadowman book by him than by Kindt.

It's portrayed like that in Dr. Mirage as well.I hate the way Kindt portrays the Deadside. He just portrays it as another magic realm with various magic creatures. Some of them are even nice.

I don't remember that. I'll have to go back and look.Nairbe wrote:It's portrayed like that in Dr. Mirage as well.I hate the way Kindt portrays the Deadside. He just portrays it as another magic realm with various magic creatures. Some of them are even nice.
I remember most of them being demonic.

Re: Divinity III: Shadowman & TBONS #1 Discussion
The battle was fierce, it gave some more back ground about the American resistance, but ultimately it was just an OK issue. That scene with the missiles hitting the Statue of Liberty in the beginning was really corny as others have pointed out. Still waiting for a really good take on Shadowman. I liked the backup story more.

I loved this. I am loving everything D3.
Now, who is that cool looking Shadowman-with-fangs? Is he thes same guy who appeared in BoD, the crowbar Shadowman guy? He looks super cool, would like to know if there's anything more.
Baba Yaga's origin was awesome and scary enough. But I could not get D&D out of my head, though.
