really liked this, was skeptical about a kindt event but he pulled off a good introduction here. nice fast pace, enjoyed getting to see more of tama and seeing what was going on with jack, liked the way it follows on from operation deadside altogether really.

Another great book from Kindt. I dig this odd team of Tamu, Ninjak, Shadowman, and Punk Mambo.
4.5 out of 5 "Control Your Loa" Taimo's.
P.S. Also another great podcast, guys. Softcore Jeff, you're not fooling anybody. Clearly, you are hardcore.

Echoing the love all around. Intriguing story and CAFU on art can do no wrong. Love seeing Jack back in action and I can't wait to see where this all takes him.
I do hope we'll get to see how Rex knows Tama, but it sounds like she's been running around the Deadside for quite awhile and probably encountered him as a result.
My wife thought Rex was Gilad. I guess aI could kinda see that, especially when you consider the older Gilad in the future.

I kinda didn't love it. I'll have more later but thought the story was a bit info-dumpy and for a billing of NINJA K / SHADOWMAN ... got like 2 pages of both.
Like XO Manowar or Conan The Barbarian? Check out my new graphic novel, DEUS VULT on IndieGoGo now: Deus Vult: http://igg.me/at/deusvult.

When you have a meal, do you go for the main course first?otomo wrote:I kinda didn't love it. I'll have more later but thought the story was a bit info-dumpy and for a billing of NINJA K / SHADOWMAN ... got like 2 pages of both.
Same concept. This issue is just the salad and bread of a 4 course meal. Not meant to fill you up, but to wet your appetite.
Let it build. I think the payoff here will be satisfying. Just the promise of Rapture setting up a new arc for next year's Shadow man release is enough to keep me interested.
I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it though, and I do hope you get what you're looking for in the next 3 issues. I think you will.

We really haven't had much of a story line with Tama, I think Kindt wanted to show her maturity and her abilities before evolving the story. This book was more the Tama story than anything.otomo wrote:I kinda didn't love it. Don't think it's been actually spelled out yet in the book or by Valiant, but I was listening to OTV this AM and they had a good one
Transformitive Amorphic Deadside Droplet or something like that.

I also wrote a review...http://comicsthegathering.com/review/th ... /rapture-1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I thought it was a great start as far as setting up the story. I hope they take advantage of the next three issues to do some world-building and give lots of character time to Jack, Tama and Mambo. The first issue is already the best showcase for Tampa we have seen yet.

Re: Rapture #1 Discussion
I think I'm in agreement with everyone here about just how great a character Tama is here. Felt even this one issue expanded her character so much, and I can't wait to see what the rest of this arc brings!
(Also how great is her hair, I want her hair!)
But it really is such a great continuation of Operation Deadside. I re-read it last week with a couple of friends, and everything that book touched upon/did all comes back here! Reading Rapture made it such a worthwhile reread (not that it was a chore to read haha).
Also crazy good art. Especially that page of Ninjak overlooking London!

Re: Rapture #1 Discussion
A good opening issue with lots of narrative and setup. Tama's development has certainly sped up, she's obviously been very busy since the Book of Death arc.
Not sure how I feel about TADD... but I guess they needed a sidekick for the journey. Tama's got her own adorable little BB-8 buddy now, complete with bleeps and blorps. I have to wonder out loud if a little toy marketing is in the works, should this pair ever appear in a movie or something.
Speaking of Star Wars, Bingle Mara is straight out of the Star Wars Name Generator app.

Re: Rapture #1 Discussion
I love CAFU's art so much and accompanied with the fearless Tama, her weird pet thing, and Matt Kindt's storytelling it makes for an absolutely fantastic first issue. I'm pretty sure the other three characters will be more involved in the next issues and by the end of the series respectively. 4.50/5.00
-0.25 because I thought it was weird to see that TADD thing popping up in the Liveside too.
-0.25 because to my understanding from the Operation Deadside arc the Magpie and his bindings are what Jack is forced to be when entering the Deadside until he would figure out how to get rid of Darque's magic spell and the bindings. Now it seems like he has to put on the mantle to summon his loa (no matter where he is) which I'm cool with too. It's still a bit confusing hence the point reduction, however, I do believe Matt Kindt is going to find a proper way for Jack to redeem himself. The moment when Jack is told he would be needed and when he's trying to get his *SQUEE* together (controlling his frickin' loa)... "I'll go!"
I really like what Tama says about the Book of the Geomancer being vague and constantly rewriting itself meaning whatever happened to the future of the Valiant Universe in the Book of Death.... stays in the Book of Death. It's official now!

Excellent start to this mini, Tama's character really starting to be fleshed out. Kindt's got such a crazy imagination for some of the weird characters in this book, wonder if he did the character designs too?

Not sure if I'm understanding you correctly, but my interpretation is that the book rewrites itself according to the actions happening presently. Hence, the future we saw in BoD may no longer be for certain.Sunlight on Snow wrote:I really like what Tama says about the Book of the Geomancer being vague and constantly rewriting itself meaning whatever happened to the future of the Valiant Universe in the Book of Death.... stays in the Book of Death. Sorry for being as vague as the Book of the Geomancer.
