Let's just say that #2 improved on the already great first issue, quite dramatically. If the A cover of #1 did not make sense, it will after reading this issue.

kindt really cannot write very consistently. every time i start to think he's good he writes a terribly paced issue like this with loads of awkward dialogue. aric's characterization is just stupid, why is he giving a big monologue to the cadmium guy and treating him like he's evil when he is being forced to fight for the azures against his own will.

I lucked out today, and was able to get the pre-order edition off the rack at the local shop. So stoked.
Just an incredible issue visually.

Some of the best comic book art I've seen in a long time.

What a great issue and arc. I love that Aric is able to use the ring to create weapons and shields, that's a fantastic development and really changes the dynamic for the character. He can now tap into the power of Shanhara without having to be fully suited up. Great stuff!

First, he has the armor. He could simply leave the planet or lay waste to darn near anything he pleases. I think the "forcing" was only initially when he was conscripted.

I would imagine that he sees that the Cads have subjugated the rest of the planet, and while he has had this situation thrust upon him, feels that he is fighting alongside the underdogs. Having lived in subjugation to both the Romans and then the Vine, perhaps he empathizes with their plight.

One last observation: Defecate. Deficate is not a word. Fe, like feces. We need editors with some Latin word root skills.

Or spellcheck.

The relationship between Shanhara and Aric is also interesting as hell. Shanhara's comment about Aric's ex is interesting. I wonder if her demise was somehow accidental and at the hands of Aric and Shanhara? I already can't wait for May.

I find something misspelled in EVERY Valiant comic in the past 5 years. At this point, I think they're just trolling us. :D

This gets back to my theory that they are communicating a hidden comic book within their compendium of work. If we take all of the misspelled words and arrange them properly, it is its own comic.

It is so fascinating to watch him fight against his own nature as a warrior and a primitive.
It's obviously a metaphor for the human struggle to tamp down our own primitive base desires in a modern civilized society. He is evolving before our eyes, and it's a trip.
