Ninjak #27 is pure tactical espionage in a world of genetically-enhanced assassins, special operations forces, and Ninjas battling one another, their own ethics, and the geopolitical realities of their world.

Just finished recording the latest OTV:VCR episode with the crew discussing this issue, looking forward to seeing what everyone thinks of the book after wednesday. I loved it!

A pretty enjoyable issue. It's kind of standard fare for this genre: rogue evil scientist, hand to hand combat, retrieve the hard drive, site infiltration, etc. Great art, solid story.

I like that they've injected a new set of villains into the series.

Liked the VCR podcast. :thumb:

I haven't gotten to read this yet, but... 'they've injected a new set of villains into the series'... IN THE FINAL ISSUE OF THE SERIES?!? So, this must be set up for the upcoming Ninja*K series then, I'm guessing?

Thanks dude! :high-five:

I agree with you about the general plot being a bit standard fare, but what got me more into it was the style in which it was written - for a one & done issue by a new writer we've never seen handling Ninjak, all the right character elements & notes were in place. And as I mentioned on the podcast, the maturity level of it was refreshingly welcome. Some pretty extreme moments there with the torched pit full of bodies - going that extra degree to mention they were experimenting on kids & killing them in the process was a bit shocking to me in the moment of it.

Could be, I didn't think of it that way. But I was really impressed with the set up of the new characters. It's another element added to the fabric of the greater Valiant universe. You may not immediately think so when you see the two main characters that show up in the issue, but the greater implications as shown at the end of the issue are what I'm really excited about.

I actually thought this was the best single issue of the summer so far, sans X-O.
I give it 5 'Bullet-blocking Sword' Taimo's

The podcast also gets an enthusiastic 5 'Bob and Doug Mackenzie Canadian vibe' Taimo's.

I didn't mean it as a pejorative, I guess I should have said "returning to its roots". I like that they use Ninjak in many different ways but it's nice to see a return to the spy/infiltration stuff from time to time.

This was my favourite Ninjak story for a while, probably because it did return Colin to spy roots rather than the Deadside stuff which I'm not really enjoying.

Interesting that this new writer had the won tons to explain in his first book that Ninjak's preference for purple is because it's a 'Royal' colour! That seems a brave move for someone doing a one off as that's a significant part of the character's design and now that purge of information has become continuity (or had this been covered before)? :hm:

Special shout out to the B cover by Steve Lieber!

Enjoyable one shot 4/5 :thumb:

I think the Canadian pronunciation of 'about' as 'aboot' is the Scottish influence in Canada's history, would you agree?

Yeah, could be! It does kind of sound like a Scottish accent... there may be a little dash of French influence on it too.

This was a cool done-in-one but I wanted a Bigger finale for this series, if it is being replaced by Ninja-K.
And I guess the "Dr. Moreau" characters will come back, for sure.

Now that it was discussed fairly well. The author looks like a Chuck Dixon type.

The whole thing felt very London Has Fallen in a positive way. I prefer some ideological diversity even if i am not a neocon. I am very curious where this goes i assume it won't go neocon preachy but it will feel very unapologetic about the very real benefits of Western Civilization. Consider Faith+ Hillary forgiven V.

I'd like to see them reappear in the new series at some point, Ninjak could use a few new additions to his rogues. I'm sure Gage will add some as well, during his run...
