DBS’s (SPOILER FREE) Rating = :)

Not terrible. Looks great, and is interesting. However, seems like this should have been MUCH larger and spread across multiple titles.

Listened to the podcast and I also loved it maybe a little more than you guys did.

I wasn't bothered by the focus on Gilad and Tama it seemed pretty natural as all this stuff is happening really fast, it made sense that Gilad would go straight to the one he thought could help him most (Dr.Mirage) then go from there all with a great sense of urgency.

I was aware of the last minute changes with this book and it made me a little leery but so far it has won me over, I really enjoy it as a Eternal Warrior/Geomancer story with Dr.Mirage as a guest star.

Too many characters in 4 issue story makes it muddled and meaningless, so far I think this book is avoiding those slings and just delivering a good straight up Gilad/Tama story.

Thoroughly enjoyable comic. Just pure fun. Not a ton of substance (issue 3 of 4 seems to usually be that way), but not bad. Diggle needs a little dialogue massaging so the characters don't all have "I'm a bad *SQUEE*... and I'm gonna say eff you" sort of feel to every single one of them, but still a fun plot.

Art was just fantastic. Braitwaithe (spelling his name wrong but too lazy) just keeps getting better.

8.5/10

Agreed with your points! I am enjoying this series as a solid Gilad/Tama adventure. I was expecting it to suffer from the reported last-minute changes to the story in the same manner as HW2 was affected, but am glad that was not the case. Shadowman would have been a good character to keep in this story, but I am certainly glad to see Dr Mirage & Hwen involved here.

I don't think it needed to be much more epic than the self-contained mini-series, although I think its a huge wasted opportunity to not have some of the other con-current books touch on the fact that something really bizarre & bad is happening in the world while Tama is dying.

Imperatrix Verago is essentially an energy Vampire but on a more cosmic scale as a "planet-eater"... this scenario where humans are wasting away and converting others into necromantic energy like a spreading plague reminds me of a great 80's movie called Lifeforce. Really cool ideas here, I like the similarity to that film - but again, I do think that its a huge missed opportunity to not have anyone in any other books see the impact of it. They don't even need to find out whats going on, just maybe have to deal with these energy-zombies or something. This is a huge problem with the current mindset in the Valiant offices though. Nothing connects at all anymore.
