Art was excellent as I knew it would be from Adam Gorham. Had high (ish) expectations of the story as Cullen Bunn is a name l’d heard of....let’s just hope issue #1 is a set up issue and it picks up from there as it was just ok. Then again maybe be that’s because I don’t find magic/Deadside related stuff to be very interesting so maybe this isn’t really a mini-series for me :? Also I’m not convinced Punk Mambo is a strong enough character to carry her own series but let’s see how this plays out.

3.5/5 - mainly for the art

Got to read this early, and thought it was a solid read. Bunn gets her character, and Gorham’s art fits well with Bunn’s script. Punk has been one of my favorite original VEI creations, since her introduction. Nice to see how she’s evolved into a character that editorial keeps in rotation. :thumb:

Pretty solid issue, I dig the story angle of separating Mambo from her dependance on the Loa. It was getting too close to making her feel more like a generic superhero riding that spirit around so much in previous appearances, rather than a voodoo priestess. Hope to see her get back into using a lot more kinds of spells, etc. as this story progresses.

And I love the artwork - Adam is nailing her physical character, expression & gesture right from the get-go. Glad I'm getting the pre-order run of this miniseries too, as his covers on those are looking top notch.

I love the character and thought the art was great. The writing was acceptable but I kept thinking what someone like Gaiman would be able to do with this character.
