NOOOOOOOOOOooooooooo! He was one of my favorite characters! Can't Toyo just re-spawn him?
I was really hoping for an LV-99 / Mecha Major buddy cop book where they have to travel across the country together and get in adventures.

I really enjoyed this issue. I didnt like the 6.00 price tag but thats the cost of good content.
If only DMG would let Dysart have free reign on wrighting their comics.
My favorite part was angela killing the brain guy and kozols reaction.

I'm really enjoying this as well. Not liking the title for next issue's story, "The Death of Mech Major," but hopefully that just means the name is dead, leaving only Sunlight on Snow.
Theories on Harada's child? Think it's an entirely new character, or someone we've seen already?

Re: The Life and Death of Toyo Harada #4 Discussion
I assume this is meant as a joke. Either way, Harada's child would have been born in the early '70s (and probably would have some Asian features) which rules out Pete. But it's not impossible that Pete could be Harada's grandchild.DirtbagSailor wrote:Harada’s son is PETE!kjjohanson wrote:Theories on Harada's child? Another 5/5 issue. I read Doomsday Clock then LADOTH, this is the comic book medium at its best IMO. Gonna read BS Rising Spirit #7 next just to go back to the opposite end of the scale!
Dysart smashes it again in this issue, interesting plot twists and fascinating characters. I hope LV99 isn’t dead as of Harada lives on in some form then presumably he will too, he’s too good a character to kill off, very menacing. Hope he gets let loose on the rest of the Valiant U.
Excellent art too, can’t fault this book 5/5

It's odd, because LV-99 is one of the few characters that I don't think it makes a huge difference to kill off.Dallow Spicer1 wrote:Another 5/5 issue. Re: The Life and Death of Toyo Harada #4 Discussion
Haven't listened to the podcast yet, so this is just based on the thread.
I feel like everyone here gives this book credit for being WAY smarter than it is. The main storyline this issue is fine, but it is just your run-of-the-mill "Students have lost their teacher and have to find a way to fight on their own" plot. This issue was actually better than the previous from that point of view because no Harada. He is not a sympathetic character. He's a sociopath that bumbles his evil plots more often than not.
Plus, I just do not enjoy Dysart's writing style; plotting, sure, but his dialogue drives me nuts. Kozol may as well be twirling his evil villain mustache with every line of terrible dialogue he suddenly blurts out. And then there's Ingrid saying "That makes it just you and I." I don't think that is grammatically correct; she wouldn't say, "That makes it just I." I do know it sure as hell pulled me out of the story for a bit to consider it because it was so awkward.
And while I generally enjoyed the Empty Man story, I did not like Yapur's art at all. Faces in particular seemed excessively photo-referenced or lightboxed to the point of looking plastic.
I don't begrudge anyone for digging on this, I just find the universal adoration of LaDoTH here could use a critical (if very unpopular) opinion offset once in a while.

I noticed this s well, but it doesn't bother me when a character says it because people don't always speak with perfect grammar. But it is less common for people to substitute "I" when "me" is correct, than vice versa.SwiftMann wrote:And then there's Ingrid saying "That makes it just you and I." Re: The Life and Death of Toyo Harada #4 Discussion
Agreed that people often overcorrect. I just wouldn't expect Ingrid to be one of those people. But I wouldn't have expected her send-off for LV-99 to be (probably not exact quote), "...you magnificent *SQUEE*." Like I said, the dialogue in this series is really bothering me.kjjohanson wrote:I noticed this s well, but it doesn't bother me when a character says it because people don't always speak with perfect grammar. He doesn't affect the plot much but he has so much character! More character than some of the recent newer characters like War-Mother or any of the Psi-Lords. He leaps off the page and has grand dialogue. What's not to love?kjjohanson wrote:It's odd, because LV-99 is one of the few characters that I don't think it makes a huge difference to kill off.

Rising Spirit may be the worst comic published in the last five years. And I loved Swierczynski's run and Reborn.

I agree about some of the dialogue being a bit off, still 4/5 for me.
