Livewire #12
While I appreciate they did what they could to get the book out on time... the art was already not great, but some of those pages looked unfinished.
I'm glad the story is over. I hope Vita never writes for Valiant again. That wasn't the Livewire we have become accustomed to. The story was repetitive, weak, and ultimately failed... in my opinion.
This story made me think about Ales Kot's horrible Dead Drop mini. Yeah, that bad.

Re: Livewire #12
I always thought Livewire was a cool character, and think that if she was given a push amidst a functioning, cohesive Valiant U then it would be a standout title. I don't know what's going on with the title right now though. Is it continuing or was 12 the last issue?

Re: Livewire #12
This was the end of the Livewire (Vol. 1) title.
Expect to see her again either in a NEW Harbinger title, or NEW Secret Weapons title.

Hey, I love listening to you and OTV every week, and I hated Livewire just as much as you, but I would appreciate it if you read the books that you reviewed. If you don't want to read them, don't read them, but maybe try to find a different host that is actually willing to read the books they're reviewing.hawkeyeps wrote:http://onlythevaliant.com/episodes/vcr228/

I'm glad it's over. This was going to be the first Valiant title of the latest incarnation for me to cancel.

We had no choice, it was this or nothing.
Soon it will be nothing.

When the books are good everybody wants to talk about them, but when they are like this nobody does.TheFerg714 wrote:Fair enough. It really was an absolute garbage fire. Cliche dialogue. Terrible art. Nonsensical wrapping up everything in a neat bow.
And, yes, that splash page was something to behold.

Re: Livewire #12
I read the last arc over the last few days. Rather than post in the individual threads, I figured I'd post all of my thoughts here. (Especially since there's not even a thread for #11.) Also listened to the OTV episodes discussing these, so some of my comments are reactions to comments made there.
I don't think the art was necessarily bad, but the cartoony style doesn't fit with the tone of the story. This style would be more suited for a Faith or Q&W series. Although I think the art change in the last issue was a bit jarring. I know sometimes Valiant uses multiple artists on an issue, but usually it's the case that a second artist is illustrating some flashback or dream sequence. I don't recall previously seeing an art change in the middle of a sequence like in this issue. If they needed a second artist to make a deadline, may have been better to have the second artist illustrate the wrap up at the end of the issue, where Amanda reunites with the Secret Weapons kids. Perhaps they changed the story, and the original artist wasn't available to re-illustrate the pages?
I don't get how people didn't see that some of the sequences of hand to hand combat were visualizations of Livewire's hacking, etc. powers. Seemed pretty obvious to me by the end of the first sequence.
Agreed with the comments questioning why it was so easy for some people to track down Livewire, when she's a wanted criminal.
Unlike some, I don't have an issue with the focus on politicians in this arc. I imagine the end game for this series was to get Livewire back to her pre-HWII status, and I don't think that's realistically feasible in a short series, especially these days with decompressed storytelling. The swing back in this arc does seem rushed. I think the political angle was the only way to clear her legal status, but I do hope we'll still see a backlash still from some characters in future stories. One problem that I did have, which I haven't seem mentioned elsewhere, was with the television show sequence at the beginning of the second part (issue 10). I watch a good bit of political news, and you NEVER see two politicians that are running against each other as simultaneous guests on a show. Really the only time you get that is in debates. This scene could have played out, probably with pretty much the same result, if Livewire had hacked some screen at the debate that was mentioned in that sequence, or if it had been a Meet the Press-type show, where they had a taped interview with one candidate, followed by an in-studio interview with the other; something along those lines.
