Rai #4 (2019) Discussion
After a slow start with issues 1&2, I’m getting into this quite a lot. Abnett creating a very interesting story and a new situation for Rai and Raijin each issue.
Whilst searching for offspring traces of father, Rai and Raijin arrive at a community who specialise in agriculture and its here that they cross paths with Gilad and the latest Geomancer, unaware until the last moment that Bloodfather’s troops are closing in!
Interesting development that Gilad’s appearance (ie young or old) is connected to the earth and the health status of it. This might be tricky to sustain from a continuity perspective but obviously someone at Valiant wanted to move away from ‘old Eternal Warrior. Not sure if Abnett captured Gilad’s tone in term of the language he uses but that was my only minor gripe.
A Simon Bisley cover B as well, not too shabby!
4/5 - very enjoyable

Good review - I agree with your points. The appearance of age based on connectedness to the Earth is possibly a good explanation, particularly if really old Gilad was looking so old because the Geomancer was trapped in orbit.

This is honestly turning into a really smart, and well-paced, story. Dan Abnett is the *SQUEE* and I sort of hope Bad Idea gets ahold of him at some point.

This was aight. Gilad kicking Rai’s *SQUEE* was the highlight of this issue for me. I’m over this Father plot line. Ugh!!
