I even started picking up on more of those little background details while re-reading the HC simply because I had read through that Carlysle sourcebook too. Things like noticing certain characters are drawn with specific emblems on their uniforms that have a full history behind them.

For example, I didn't know Marisol was part of the Daggers elite military unit. If it was ever specifically mentioned in dialogue, I can't recall - but she is drawn with their emblem on her outfit. That detail is there for you to pick up on as a reader without being pointed to - I love that! There are three pages devoted to the Daggers in the sourcebook!

So I just re-read the Vol.1 Hardcover tonight, and something occurred to me...

In the Lift story arc, we see flashbacks to Forever's training/growing up days... What if those aren't flashbacks, but present day scenes of the other Forever clone/test tube baby that we see running loose at the Carlysle compound at the very end of #21??? Those 'flashbacks' are never actually dated at a different time in any narrative/location boxes... Makes you wonder if there is ever more than one copy of a fully developed Forever running around either in public or on missions... :hm:

Also just read a snippet of an interview with Rucka from last year - he mentioned having a planned, finite storyline that could run anywhere from 100-150 issues for Lazarus! :thumb: :thumb:

Aaaaaand done reading #22. Great start to the new arc. Thoroughly satisfying comic, I read every word from cover to cover. I missed the regular back matter/letter column section almost as much as the main story!

So what's the best way to read this now? The Deluxe HC's?

I only picked up the First TPB when it came out and was interested in more but let it slide with everything else. Same thing happened with East of West.

Hey Aram:

I believe each HC contains three TPB's worth of material. If you order the two Deluxe HC editions, you are only missing the Sourcebook single issue and the new "Cull" arc. I plan to buy the next 3 trades and sell them to purchase the 3rd HC that is released.

I think there's only two trades per HC - but there have only been 4 story arcs prior to the newest 5th arc that just started (and some arcs were 5 issues in length), plus a couple of stand alone issues.

I'd say the two hardcovers are your best option as well, if you don't mind paying for them - they are absolutely packed with amazing extra world-building background material, some of which isn't printed anywhere else.

String wrote:Greg Rucka now has my everlasting loyalty.

As you may (or may not) remember, I've had previous fan letters printed in various issues of Lazarus. Last year, in early fall, I wrote Rucka another fan letter with a question I had a personal stake in: In this new society, would a member of the Waste have access to current medical treatments if that Waste person developed cancer? Or would such treatment be reserved by Families to just their serfs?

Having just started my own chemotherapy, I was interested in his reply. I also told him that, because of my rising medical bills, that I was having to cull my pull list but was still planning on keeping Lazarus (and somehow adding Black Magick cause that preview of it in a Lazarus issue rocked!)

The next day, I received a very eloquent email reply from Rucka where he basically told me (paraphrasing), "Don't worry about it. I've heard of how hard such treatments can be and you shouldn't worry about something like this. During this time, I will send you copies of both titles for free. Stay strong and let me know how you're doing."

I was floored! I never in a million years would've expected a reply like that. True to his word, he did exactly that. For the rest of last year up through this January, he sent me free copies of both Lazarus and Black Magick, all signed by him with words of encouragement while I kept him up-to-date on the progress of my treatments.

I can never thank him enough for this deed and his words of encouragement. For a creator to go to such lengths for just one of their readers shows their love and dedication. :thumb:

You should also check out the five part Dragon Age: Magekiller mini-series from Dark Horse that he wrote it's pretty good considering how dense the Dragon Age universe is.

Good catch, Brother! :thumb: Yes, two trades make up each HC volume. The cheapest route will be to keep buying the trades, but you will miss all the backstory and extra content.

Issue 23 was out this week. Just read it... Thoroughly satisfying read as always! Some really cool developments in this one.

Someone in the letter column theorized that the person who contacted Forever via cell phone & told her she wasn't part of the Carlylse family may have actually been a previous Forever clone gone rogue.... "Our" Forever is the 7th clone.

Just finished reading #25... the Cull storyline has been very good so far, I'm enjoying seeing many Lazari in action. Next month we will be seeing the Vassalovka Lazarus, I don't recall if he made an appearance in the Conclave storyline or not, but just going by the preview of next months cover he looks insanely cool!!

The revelations for Forever by her sister in this issue... :o

Also, I think one of our own got a shout out from Greg in the letters column without having a letter printed - String, if you read this, was that you? If so, congrats & glad to hear it man!

Do you think the Sourcebooks will be released in the Deluxe HC's? I believe the first Sourcebook came out right after the Volume 2 HC release, so I wonder if Volume 3 will have these Sourcebooks?

Thanks,

Just saw this in the May DCBS website:

https://www.dcbservice.com/product/may1 ... plus-66-1-(of-6" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)-(mr)-special-discount

Lazarus X + 66 #1 of 6

Is this just a mini-series inside the regular Lazarus series?

Yes, something like that - in the back matter of #26, Lark revealed he is a bit burnt out and needs a temporary break from Lazarus. So they are doing this 6-issue mini-series as an interim arc, with possibly a different artist and story set in the world of Lazarus in each individual issue, before resuming with the main story and Lark back on art with issue #27.

I'm sure this stuff will still be great material regardless, although I'm gonna miss seeing Lark as the sole, main visual style of the series to date.

So far I haven't taken time to pour over this book much yet, but I did check out what part of HOCK territory I'd be living in if I were a citizen of this universe... the Ontario Culture Zone! :o

Thankfully according to the write-up, we're a bit resistant to being taken over by Hock forces after the collapse of Bittner holdings in the area... but they did bulldoze Quebec City to the ground in the Montreal Culture Zone after they took over. We'd better be smart about our resistance methods.

If anyone out there was thinking about checking out Lazarus but hasn't yet, there is a sale on comiXology right now for the 2 omnibus collections. Volume 2 is a better deal than volume 1, but you are getting a good deal on 20+ comics if you pick up both.

https://m.comixology.com/Lazarus/comics ... _pg=1&cu=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Really cool that those collections are available digitally - I highly recommend them, as the extra content has some significantly good world-building bonus material.
