I read the Maxx back in the day. I liked it then, but haven’t read in years. Never owned every issue.

Anyway, recently purchased all three volumes of Maxxed Out and really, really enjoyed it.

Anyone else think this is one of the better things the medium has put out in 20-30 years?

I’d say it’s for a very specific audience.

Worth the read, but it ended up being not anything like I thought it was in the beginning.

I read it from the OG books.
The end of the run SK had like, his own “classified” section in the back.
I HIGHLY recommend reading THAT if you can.

My first exposure to The Maxx was the animated show MTV made back in the 90's.

I learned later it was a comic and years later when i checked out the comic i found that the animated show was a shot for shot, word for word, adaption.

The Maxx a truly original story, i never forgot The Maxx as i got older.

I recall starting the series, but never finished it. I've been thinking about picking up the trades to read it again. Glad to hear you felt it held up well over time.

Agreed! The lettercol and those back pages usually took more time to read than the book and it was already nothing like Spawn - this book had dialogue.

I know right!

I stumbled onto this comic back in the day as a PITT collector and ended up collecting the full run, I still draw him in margins allover my work notebooks--came up in an evaluation that I 'doodle too much'.

I've been meaning to pick up the Maxximized or Maxxed out editions (recommendation?) to re-read this. Saw this today and I'm really hoping Keith has some awesome story to tell. I don't know what it could be.

And now:

Image
When a devious new doctor at Arkham Asylum conducts unconventional forays into the human psyche, he kicks off a disastrous chain reaction by experimenting on Arkham’s newest patient: The Maxx! The city of Gotham soon begins to merge with the Outback, The Maxx’s psychedelic mental landscape. It’s up to Batman to save Gotham and all of reality… but only by joining The Maxx on a trip into the darkest depths imaginable: the twisted minds of Batman’s greatest enemies!

Batman finds a box in one dirty alley in Gotham and gets the living *SQUEE* beaten out of him by duckface here.
Then he wins on the 2nd round because Batman is Batman.

:P

Really hyped for this, thanks for the heads-up Darque. :thumb:

I remember picking up The Maxx when it first came out and being pretty enthralled as it was unlike anything I had read up to that point. It definitely stood apart from the other Image books of that time.

It's one I've been meaning to go back to for awhile now. Thanks for bringing it up!
