Continuity - Issue List

Post by Knightt »

Continuity Comics was started by comics LEGEND Neal Adams. The titles were many but the worst thing about these titles is that their shipping schedule would make Image look GOOD.

More info on this line later, I just wanted to get it up (HEY no funny comments here)

Chris, it's GREAT to see you back!

I think I have a full run of CyberRad (with the exception of the '92 #1 variants). I actually liked that book a lot. I bought the first issue at a Wal*Mart in East Texas.

I tried, but could never really get into any of the other Continuity titles.
I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

I couldnt either 'back in the day' but after coming to appreciate Neal Adams' art and those that draw 'like' him, I cant get enough of these issues. I REALLY want to get this DU completed so that I can sit down and read them. I must be about 40 issues away though. I should just sit down at Ebay on of these days and go for it. But I collect so many DUs that waiting for 'that deal' just may take too long.

I can honestly appreciate the Continuity art and it's stories. The huge problem with this company back in the day was that their shipping schedule was HORRID. Speaking with Neal Adams, he told me that they just could not 'get their $hit together' and it was one correction after another. The one thing that they were great on was the 'enhanced covers' on books. Oddly enough the newsstand editions on a couple of issues are the 'variant cover' editions.

Maybe it is the 80s 'feel' to the books, using words like "TOTALLY RAD"... LOL but I get a certain nostalgic feeling when reading these books. GREAT thing about them is that they are so cheap. Lord, I think I bought a lot off Yahoo Auctions of 66 issues for $15 shipped. It was TOTALLY AWESOME DUDE.

The Deathwatch 2000 trading cards (YES, I just about typed Deathmate hehehe) are also a lot of fun for me to collect (again FUN and CHEAP). One of the more elusive cards I have looked for is the Neal Adams signed card... I have two now, each costing me $.99 A price that I think that I can handle. NOW if I could only get that Ken Griffey Jr. card from the set to complete it. In the Deathwatch 2000 comic books, there also came a subset of cards, that had two special hologram cards (Valeria She Bat and Shaman). I have NEVER seen a complete set of these cards (the subset)... NEVER. I am within seven cards of being complete but it is really hit and miss as some of these cards were sealed in the polybag INSIDE the book. Making a visual inspection of the card impossible (and the hologram cards (1 in 25 books and 1 in 50 books respectively) only were inserted inside the books.

I am not positive about this but I think that I 'heard that someone read' and told someone that knew someone who THOUGHT that they said that Neal Adams used to have his artists not draw that faces on the characters as Neal wanted to draw them himself. A few Valiant greats worked for Continuity at one time, such as Janet Jackson and Sal Valeutto (sp). It was even rumored that Jim Shooter did a bit of work over there as well. This bit of info I have never been able to nail down.

When I get home this evening, I'll dig through my books and give you a list of what I have. I have quite a few issues from around the "Deathwatch 2000" and "Rise of Magic" storylines. Anything but CyberRad is yours if you want it.

Yes, their shipping schedule was one of the worst from any company in the history of comic books, but I don't think it was their only problem. As I was reading Deathwatch 2000 as it was being released, I decided the company name - Continuity - was a joke. There just was no continuity to the story. One chapter would end with Megalith in grave danger, tangled up with a villian, and in the next chapter he would be somewhere else with no mention of the previous encounter. It just seemed they were changing the story on the fly as they went along.

I can't complain at all about the art and I'm still a big fan of Neal Adams, but the stories just didn't grab me at all.
I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Well with six months between one issue to the next, I imagine 'what happened last month' could get lost in the transition. But you have a VERY valid point as I now think that the only thing that had any resemblance to 'continuity' is the art, i.e. it seemed like everybody drew like Neal Adams.

Another interesting point is that through out these books, you will notice that the ONLY ads in these comics are 'Continuity ads'. Now there may be some here and there in the latter issues (I will admit that I have not read all of them in fact only about five issues) that I may have missed but I thought this was fantastic, a truly independant company. So, not only did they have artists drawing the stories but the advertisements as well !!!

Chris and I spoke about Continuity one night. Great stuff.

I *loved* their version of Captain Power. They made him incredibly cool, unlike the semi-lame Sunday morning TV show.

Megalith and Armor were perhaps my favorite titles. I loved the feel of the Armor series, and Megalith always had a Magnus vide that resonated with me.

Heath, the "continuity" problem you're referencing was mainly due to the fact that a story would start in megalith, continue in Revengers, and then finish in Armor. The next one would start in Samuree, etc. etc. I should put together a "reading order" one day when I get the time.

Interesting side note... I remember hearing that Adams ended up delaying some issues of Continuity's books in order to finish work on some Mr. T And The T-Force issues for NOW comics. So, does that mean Mr. T is more powerful than, say, Megalith? :)

Actually I thought all of the Continuity characters are pretty cool, even 'Toy Boy', in fact for such a silly sounding book, it had one HOT chick as one of the supporting cast and drawn only as Neal Adams (or his protoge) can draw.

I ended up writing back and forth with Michael Netzer and he drew the following sketch for me.

Whoo hoo... I finished off my Armor portion of this collection today after winning two Ebay auctions that held my remaining issues. Too bad that shipping is gonna be a whopping $7.50 for less than 10 books... freakin' postage gougers. But when you get down this close to the end... I guess ya gots ta pay the piper ta gets whats ya wants. :!:

actually, his shipping rate is pretty good, it's $3.99 no matter how many books you buy. If you only buy one book, I guess it's a little costly, but $3.99 for one book isn't really that unreasonable these days.

So, less than $5.00 for a book that is pretty neat to have, not 'overly' easy to find, so hoping that the shipping is priority mail and packaged well... I think it a pretty decent deal. And you know me... the king of cheap.

Knightt,

My copies of the CyberRad Vol 1, #1 - #5 all have bar codes on them. And I remember buying them at various "newsstand" location (I bought #1 at Wal*Mart, the others at gas stations). Should these be listed as additional variants on your list? You do have some of the newsstand editions listed seperately already.

And for what it's worth, excluding distinctions between newsstand and direct editions, it looks like CyberRad Vol 2 #1 Gold Foil version is the only book I'm missing to totally complete that title!
I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

If I remember correctly, I only included a 'newstand' variant if the actual cover was different i.e. a variant cover.

In the case of your Armor issues, go to this website to see what I mean.

For all Continuity cover scans, check this out:

I do not have an extra Gold copy for ya but I will check Ebay out and see what I can come up with for ya.

just looked myself, nothing really good right now, there are two of the gold books, but one is in England with a price tag over $8, while the other is a slabbed PGX copy graded 9.0! Why they bothered to slab that is anyone's guess!

Gotcha, Knightt! Thanks for the info and the link.

Looking closer now, I see I'm actually missing 3 CyberRad books: the non-hologram and gold foil versions of Vol 2 #1, and the TPB. Not that I'm actively searching for them or anything, but if I stumble upon them for cheap, it would be nice to complete that title.

On that site you linked to, there was a link to a very brief CyberRad live-action video... what's the story behind that?

good luck finding the Cyberrad TPB. It's from Diamond Previews and appears to be just as rare as the VALIANT Diamond Unity trades.
