Well, I still (only) have my PS2, so I can play the PS1 games on it...

Yes you can play PSX games on a PS2. The PS2 has been the only successful console to be fully backwards compatible. Xbox360 and PS3 only play select games.
Thus the major reason why I am so hesitant to buy a new system if ever I get the money to do so.
Another nice thing about the Wii. Even with it's inexpensive price tag for the system, they still made it so you could play all of the old GC games. And with the launch of their Virtual Console, you can play a lot of the older games too, going clear back to the original NES.

I am glad that FF 13 won't be coming out as soon as I had been hearing. It gives me more time to ponder if it is really worth purchasing an entire system just for one game. I don't know. I'm leaning towards no, but I have to decide WHICH system I will get, either an XBOX360 or a PS3, if I do want the game "that bad". It's gonna be a tough choice. I would get a PS3 if I could be certain that the FF games, including the old PS1 games, Suikoden and Vandal Hearts, would work on the PS3. Choices choices. Any suggestions and info?

Which FF for PSP? I was never a big Tactics fan, though it's not bad. I would just rather play a more tradition FF game. I did however, enjoy the setting, which was later used in FF 12, after major changes.

It might be the PSP edition of the first one. Is it the one where you just choose 4 "character class types" and then fight an evil knight named Garland really early on? If so, that's the first one.

You have to find an early-version PS3 with the 60GB HD inside, it had the E-Motion engine that plays the PS1 & -2 games. The later versions do not...

Finally, a clear answer. Well, that does it. I'm sticking with the Wii for now. I don't want to have to get a PS2 on the cheap and then purchase a PS3 or XBOX360 for one game only to have them replaced in a year or two with the next generation, which with my luck, WILL be backwards compatible. I may just get the cheapest PS2 I can find so that I can keep on truckin' with all my old games.

I dont know I do prefer the normal FF play but tactics in terms of story and amount of stuff to do was pretty good in my opinion.

I agree about that. It was just the "way" it played that I wasn't big on, although I really enjoyed the very similar Vandal Hearts. Go figure.

I have been going over FFXII lately and the game never ceases to amaze me. I truly love everything about it. I know some don't like "gambits", but I always used a mix of gambits and manual control and never had any issues. I appreciated the scope of the terrain you could explore. The world felt more "real" than even FFX ever did. I also think the voice acting is pretty close to the best I've seen in a videogame. I like the fact that there are new variations on old monsters yet still plenty of all new ones to fight. I mean, seriously, about 70% of the game must be new creatures for the series. More than even the last time I played through the game, I realize how natural or "intuitive" the gameplay is. The musical score is great, in the mold of a real "underscore". Besides that, there is plenty to do, the characters aren't bad and the whole thing is fun. Just sooo deep. After I finish this, I'm going to work my way backwards and do X through 6,4,2 & 1.

Final Fantasy and Philosophy. Interesting book. Same series as the BSG & Philosophy book that I picked up a while back. Some very different views, some of which I agree with or at least see what they are saying and others that I believe they overthought or totally misunderstood.

Currently attempting to beat Hell Wyrm in Final Fantasy XII. 8.6 million HP, roughly, on this *SQUEE*. I assume the battle will take several hours...

Power blip in the house...had him about 30% finished. It's gonna be a LONG time before I attempt him again.

Finally got the Lynd Wyrm. Going to go do Deathgaze, next and try to get Fafnir to appear. If that fails, it's off to do Ultima and Chaos. I had Chaos almost completed when he unleashed an attack that wiped out my party. Brought in my backups, tried to work a win by using them to recover my main group. Utter fail. Every other attack wiped out 2 of my characters. :!:

Beat Chaos, today. Had to quit a battle with Ultima after getting down to one person and 1 hp with a mass attack getting ready. I'll regroup in the morning and put her to dust.

1&2 came out as a single cart with an added dungeon in each to entice existing owners to drop the dollar on it.

FF Tactics Advance was also available and very enjoyable.

There were versions of 4-6, as well, with the same sort of "Extras". 4 & 6 played very well on the GBA, as it happens, although the Vanish+Doom=win, is now missing from 6. I can't stand the version of 6 on the PS, so I always bring out my SNES or, until my DS was traded, I'd grab that, if I wanted to play the "old school" games. I would love to get another DS, though, since I didn't know until recently that FFTA has THAT much different from the first FFT.

DS also has FF Tactics Advance 2, FF3, the remake of 4 and the offshoots of XII, Crystal Chronicles (though the DS CC was patronising as *SQUEE*) and Chocobo's Storybook.

I have FF3, which is not my fave and the remake of 4, which is hard as hell. Never got a chance to play the others. I have never played a Crystal Chronicle game.

I still need to get 4 redux, TA2 and a couple of the spin offs myself. I don't want to get XII Revenant Wings until I finish XII.

I never got round to Crystal Chronicles on GC because I still don't have a GC. CC on DS *SQUEE* me off though because it is so kiddyfied. I will get round to grabbing a GC at some point when I can find one cheap because I want Megaman.exe 1.5, Resi 0 and the Metroid Prime games.
