The PS3 is a quality product. No doubt about that. It plays BluRay and is 3D compatible. I think alot of their problem is they became complacent. They used to have alot of exclusive games, good games, that are now available on other consoles. While, not producing anything earthing shattering. Its been a dissapointment to say the least!
XBOX360......Where do I start? IMO, Its the biggest piece of *SQUEE* system ever created. My 1st one lasted 9 Days before I encountered the "Ring of Death"! My 2nd XBOX360 lasted 47 Days, again, "Ring of Death"! My 3rd XBOX360 lasted a little over 1 year before, once again, "Ring of Death"!!! There was no 4th XBOX360!!! Between me and 2 other friends, we have gone through 10 XBOX306s!!! Thats insane! I love it when people debate how many more XBOX360s have sold than PS3s!!!! No *SQUEE*, they have sold more!!!!! You had to have bought 5 of them if you bought the 1st ones in 2006 til now!!!!!!!!
The Wii definately gets some creative points! The whole interactive landscape was pretty neat at 1st!!! But lets be realistic, its a kids console, Bottom line. As much as I enjoyed Mario Kart, Super Mario Bros, etc, it still doesnt hold a flame to Red Dead Redemption, Dead Space, Call of Duty, etc. on XBOX or Playstation! I dont like the fact that it is not an HD Console! XBOX and Playstation caught up with the Interactive atmosphere,
WHATS holding the Wii back from going HD?
That is why I believe, IMO, its time for somebody to come in and shake things up a bit. Too much complacency in the big 3 and a little competition never hurt anyone! To each his own!!!!!!
I don't theres an obvious contender to step into the console market, its pretty heavily contended and it requires alot of investment and a high chance of failure. Apple are the only company that strike me as having the money and identity for it, but I don't think I'd buy an apple console.
I think Apple would probably be the best contender! I would be interested if Apple put effort into a console.

My nephew has a computer science degree from University of Illinois and I emailed him to see if he has a PS3. This was his response:
Ugh, I do have one, and this week has been terrible. I changed all of
my online passwords, because I have no idea what my PSN password was
(PS3 can save your password and log in automatically). I put out a
fraud alert on my credit report, and I've been keeping an eye on my
credit card online statement. I don't think I had a credit card saved
for PSN, but I'm not taking any chances.
I don't care too much about PSN being down, even if it is a bit
annoying, but I really am mad about the identity theft implications. I
have an Amazon.com Visa through Chase, and they've been good in the
past about fraud, so I hoping everything will be fine.
I cannot believe they had this information stored in cleartext
anywhere. I run the secure server for my tiny company's website, and I
have everything encrypted. I should apply for a job at Sony now, and
just write "I am not a moron" on the application.

I think I'd buy an Apple game console. It would be the best time to launch a competing console... maybe now is the best time for OnLive to get more aggressive.Chiclo wrote:That... boggles the mind.jridd28 wrote:I think Apple would probably be the best contender! I may be wrong, but I saw part of the video of the conference and it actually sounded like the free month of PSN Plus was just for those who are already PSN Plus members to make up for the time they lost. The streaming music people are getting the same deal. I -THINK- the news sites are misreporting that, but maybe I'm the one who is wrong. It's sounding like everyone else is going to get a credit for a free download of select software (probably a crappy game that you wouldn't have bought otherwise). All in all, an epic fail. They are still refusing to say that anyone's information was stolen, but instead say that the warning was just a precaution because it MIGHT have been stolen.
There is rumbling going on that Sony will be setting people up with credit monitoring, though, so if they do that then I'm okay for the most part.

I'm not that worried about the credit card thing. The way I see it is that if you have a credit card some *SQUEE* out there probably has your number already. Too easy to do now that everybody is shopping online. And if someone is using your card illegally it's pretty easy to spot and you're not liable for the charges.
I'm a little *SQUEE* off that someone could access my password and security question though.

If you're on PSN, it's safe to assume you're screwed.

You're not supposed to use "the name of your first pet" over and over. Speaking of dead dogs, is that a canine you're sporting there or a vampire bat?depluto wrote:I'm not that worried about the credit card thing. Yep, they've now dropped the ball on all their online games. So I don't have a Playstation, but the hackers now have my info from DC online. Nice.Daniel Jackson wrote:More? Wow, way to go, Sony.david_albuq wrote:If you're on PSN, it's safe to assume you're screwed.

They way they've been handling this is not going to win over their fans or bring them new customers, that's for sure. What a disaster.ian_house wrote:Yep, they've now dropped the ball on all their online games. So I don't have a Playstation, but the hackers now have my info from DC online. Nice! My first cat's nickname was $6b5e454532. I considered making it 128-bit encryption, but thought is might be tough to yell out when she was being naughty. It's OK, the name of my first pet was St51Ill098pXkX23booy44.
Looks like Sony responded to Congress today:
