Interactive Fiction, anyone?
To show off my truly dorky side, wondering if anyone else out there was a player of old Infocom games?
A few years ago, I picked up copies of all of the old games via the Masterpieces of Infocom.
http://www.amazon.com/Classic-Text-Adve ... 929&sr=8-1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I truly paid $15 for it from the company - round about 12 years ago.
The games brought me right back to the 1980's when my friends and I would live through all of them - Cutthroats, Bureaucracy, Hitchhiker's Guide, Zork, and Trinity to name a few.
I persuaded my wife to play Nord and Bert after we picked it up, too. Pretty fun.
I also bought Twisty Passages, the guide to old IF, and I'm starting a read. Any others?

I think the vast majority of those on this site qualify as such. Hell, when money is good, I collect comics, coins and books. I watch everything from silent films to experimental documentaries. My interests are rather eclectic. It's all good.kevinbastos wrote:xodacia81 wrote:Nerdork.

Re: Interactive Fiction, anyone?
I tried some of these on a website a bit ago, I had forgotten all about them!
I have a question, does anybody remember the games that were almost exactly like this, but they provided graphics for each area? I don't mean like Space Quest or King's Quest where you could move around, but just little images to go with the story.

Point and click. Bleah.
Check out an online Infocom play. Zork I, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy are both available, but so should many others, too.
I guess I just always saw a connection - especially with Infocom - to Valiant since the stories were so rich.
Keep in mind - these were late seventies/early eighties high tech.

Re: Interactive Fiction, anyone?
Yes, a completely DEAD forum, but I found out when I tried to re-install my Mac and Windows 95 version of the software that
1. Windows 8 does not like EARLY software versions.
2. Windows 8 really does not like to run emulators.
AND most importantly,
The iTunes Store is now selling a version that includes 25 of the games for $10, or Zork for free. If you are a child of the Eighties, they are wonderful hikes into the past.

If you liked Infidel, try Cutthroats. Time is a factor, but it's much easier. I played that on my ol' Commodore 64! I wanna get back and push through a few of the ones not on the new release. But I LOVE the feelies contained on the app. It's a seriously hard look back in the past. Planetfall was my second fave - after Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - unfortunately not on the list - but playable online a few places, if I remember correctly.DrSoup007 wrote:I won Zork I and II and died just before finishing Infidel.kevinbastos wrote:Won any yet?DrSoup007 wrote:Got the exact same thing. Re: Interactive Fiction, anyone?
Hitchhikers had maybe the toughest puzzle in Infocom to get the babel fish.
Cutthroats seemed very logical throughout. A few red herrings, but very straightforward. Planetfall is tough, and you can end the game without knowing it, but it is very rewarding. Keep MULTIPLE save spaces. Station fall is terrible.

H2G2 is super difficult. My first playthrough, it took about 30 minutes just to get out of bed and another hour to get outside to the bulldozer. It wasn't frustrating at all though, because every wrong move rewards you with an hilarious joke.DrSoup007 wrote:I tried Hitchhiker's multiple times and gotten know where. I've done Planetfall.
