Spoiler warnings dude!!!400yrs wrote:Superstar just because he dies? Nah.
Just kidding.
I agree with 100%. I was just saying it start with a gentle purr rather than a whimper!
Flatline mentions missing his wife and they show clearly that he can't contact her. They're trying there! It was a tender moment.
Course, the real proof is that I read #1 in one sitting, waited 2 days and read two more and have stopped again. Obviously, I'm not feeling all that engaged either.

The bald dude was Hammerhead. He shaved his head because he felt the scars that covered his scalp distinguished him.400yrs wrote:Maybe the bald dude because he's bald and they show his daughter. Superstar just because he dies? Nah.
I liked Superstar. Never figured out why. Maybe because he died before he could suck too bad.

There is a down side to reading these books and talking about it. There's a downside to maintaining an online presence here on the boards as well.
By going public with the fact that I own all these issues, I no doubt, made myself a target. As a result, I find myself missing Hard Corps issues 4 and 5. See, somebody on these boards saw that I had them, and decided to break into my house and steal these invaluable treasures. Dang.
Me and my big mouth.
I'm already on issue 8. I really had to laugh at Harada's "Scooby Doo villain" moment regarding the teams disrupting his attempt to purchase Estonia. "And it would have worked if not for the interference from that damnable Hard Corps!"
In the opening his language is in brackets. It never says, but the implication is that he speaks Russian, wouldn't you say?
I think Michelinie is a big movie fan. So far he's quoted Jaws and Terminator and a few others I can't remember at this point. It makes sense for Superstar to do it, since he's supposed to be a Hollywood guy. An attempt at character development?
The B-team I think refers to the A-team, right and the other title for the book was Some like it Hot(shot) so there are two more references...

Estonian I'd say. With his mental powers speaking any language should be easy.dave wrote:In the opening his language is in brackets. It never says, but the implication is that he speaks Russian, wouldn't you say?
On a related note I remember thinking back then that it was silly to believe a few billions could buy Estonia.
Must be. Good catch.I think Michelinie is a big movie fan.

Is there really that much in Estonia worth buying?magnusr wrote:Estonian I'd say. With his mental powers speaking any language should be easy.dave wrote:In the opening his language is in brackets. It never says, but the implication is that he speaks Russian, wouldn't you say?

I've been worried that I might be missing a book or two as well. So far, ok.dave wrote: By going public with the fact that I own all these issues, I no doubt, made myself a target. As a result, I find myself missing Hard Corps issues 4 and 5.
I do remember that Scooby Doo moment. If that was Dr. Eclipse or some lame villain, fine, but don't do that to Harada or Darque, please.
As far as character development, Hard Corps is largely void of it IMO.
This week was a busy work week so I didn't read much Valiant. I had to read 2 today to make sure i got 5 in this week. When I've been reading, it has been a non-valiant in the morning before work or The Walking Dead at night before I go to bed.
I hope to get in more Valiant this week. at 5 a week, it would take about 3 years to read all of it. I'd like to see if I can do it in a year.
Ah, I expressed myself badly. Seen like that, it just might be enough (the story talks about fixing their economy and it might be enough for a quick fix, though probably not more than that). What I should have said was that I do not think Estonia would let themselves be bought up after having fought for their independence for so long (I have no doubt that individuals could be bribed, but the story was about the nation as such selling out).Chiclo wrote:Is there really that much in Estonia worth buying?

Weren't the Estonians the Livonians? Didn't they get crushed under the boot of Lithuania and Poland during the Baltic Crusades?magnusr wrote:Ah, I expressed myself badly. when comic reading seems like it's becoming a chore, it's probably time to say the heck with it and put them away.400yrs wrote:2/6/2011-2/12/2011 - 9 issues (326)
Another light week. The EW issue was good. I knocked out all the Ninjak's and Armorines that come before Chaos Effect so that's a small victory at least.

That's definitely the route I take with all books other than these Valiants. If I don't like something, I stop reading it and put it in the pile to sell or trade. Since I have the whole reading set, I kind of want to at least try reading all these.Brother J wrote:when comic reading seems like it's becoming a chore, it's probably time to say the heck with it and put them away.400yrs wrote:2/6/2011-2/12/2011 - 9 issues (326)

Although the more recent books have been getting bad coloring, the reading hasn't been that bad yet. I definitely wouldn't re-read this stuff again later though. That's for sure.

The only thing they've got as far as character development was:
Ricky Silver was an adrenaline junkie, because he couldn't go out at all because he was so famous (which was kinda lame anyway-current stars go out, he could have)
Hammerhead thinks his scars make him sexy, he missed out on his daughter growing up and therefore makes her do crap she hates with him. He's also racist.
Shakespeare is well read, although I've seen no evidence of this since around issue 6.
Gunslinger has nothing. Nothing. He's just their leader.
Hotshot, nothing.
Flatline misses his wife.
Heydrich can't be trusted.
Pretty slim pickings for the first 20 issues.
I wouldn't call these bad, but there's just no direction. Nothing cool, or cutting edge and the fact that I missed a huge chunk of story by not reading Harbinger along "The Bad Omen" arc is really lame.
They told every story over and over through Unity and here we don't even get a recap.

I'm just about to get to the Harby / HC crossover issues. I'm kind of looking forward to them, actually. The last few Harby issues about Butch were actually really good.dave wrote:Nothing cool, or cutting edge and the fact that I missed a huge chunk of story by not reading Harbinger along "The Bad Omen" arc is really lame.
Maybe they figured, "why do we want anyone to recall that crap?"dave wrote:They told every story over and over through Unity and here we don't even get a recap.

I know what you mean. That happens with the crappier titles for me all the time - Ninjak, Hard Corps, Armorines in particular.dave wrote:Butch? Funny, I have read all the way through Harby and I have no recollection of what you're talking about.
Read Harbinger #28. That's the Butch origin issue. Tell me what you think. It has an A&A 0 feel to it. That's probably why I enjoyed it.
