CEAR with Bernard Chang's signature
So, I picked up a CEAR with Chang's sig at a local show. These may be questions for Greg, but I am curious to hear everyone's answers. Does the sig make it any more valuable? How many were signed? There are 5 graded on the census...are those likely to be the signed versions?

As geocarr indicated, it's more of a personal preference thing. Sigs usually decrease the value of books moreso than increase unless they are certified by CGC as a signature serie book (yellow label).wallywest wrote:So, I picked up a CEAR with Chang's sig at a local show. As far as the census, any signed copies of this book would be in the "qualified" column as they would receive the green label.

Is there a letter with it? That should make a big difference.wallywest wrote:So, I picked up a CEAR with Chang's sig at a local show. I meant my original post to say "there are 5 qualified graded by cgc". Sorry about that. There are far more graded in total.400yrs wrote:As geocarr indicated, it's more of a personal preference thing. Re: CEAR with Bernard Chang's signature
I don't think these came with letters of authenticity. If in Greg's guide you click on the CEAR link, then on More Info, he tells about certain dealers who filled out Valiant surveys getting copies of CEAR signed by Chang. I was just curious what people know about these copies other than that info. I am more than likely going to keep the copy, but if it were much more valuable than a regular, I might sell it and buy a reg copy. I am not a signature guy, so the sig doesn't add much for me.magnusr wrote:Is there a letter with it? If it's signed in what looks like "silver" marker near the bottom, then it was a special signed book, like VVSS, that was given out to retailers as a thank you. This is, in fact, those "survey books."wallywest wrote:I don't think these came with letters of authenticity. The letter that is referenced is this one:

If it didn't come with this letter, it's worth substantially less. The letter is essentially a VVSS type COA.

That's the one. It is essentially identical, down to the icon at the end of the sig.ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:If it's signed in what looks like "silver" marker near the bottom, then it was a special signed book, like VVSS, that was given out to retailers as a thank you. Unfotuntately, it did not come with the letter. I am sure I bought it from the dealer who originally got it, but I am also quite sure he did not save the letter. Oh well, still a cool book. Do you think CGC will treat it any differently without the letter?ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:

They'd treat it the same way, letter or no letter. It's a Qualified...wallywest wrote:That's the one. Why didn't they VVSS this book? Is it because it was already a retailer incentive issue?ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:Has this ever been sold as a "VVSS" type book? Other than the embossing and the "cert", it's essentially the same thing: officially produced by the company, with a letter certifying that.
A regular CEAR sells for $100+.
What would this one sell for....?
