CGC announces modified new holder 6/24/2016 (add inner well)
CGC announcement 6/24/2016: https://www.cgccomics.com/news/viewarti ... ticle=5383&" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Also posted on their message board: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ub ... er=9425591" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
CGC announced they're going to use an inner well again, in combination with the new outer holder style. My guess is that it will be possible to see the inner well, so buyers on Ebay, etc., will be able to tell old style, new style without inner well, and new style with inner well from the photos.

The new holder lasted about the same amount of time (3 months) before Coke went back to the original formula.

The new outer holder is still being used. They're going to put an inner well in there... so it sounds like a New Coke can with Coke Classic inside.

From the announcement, it seems like the new label stays. It will be hard to tell the "new holders" from the "modified new holders".
Hope that the modified new holders work.

The inner well will probably be visible, but we shall see.iggy101us wrote:From the announcement, it seems like the new label stays. It will be hard to tell the "new holders" from the "modified new holders".

Re: CGC announces modified new holder 6/24/2016 (add inner w
Since they were only used in production for such a short time, the "new holders" will be the rarest. So for the variant collectors, we need to have:
- regular cover in pre-new holder
- regular cover in new holder
- regular cover in modified new holder
- variant cover in pre-new holder
- variant cover in new holder
- variant cover in modified new holder
What about the stacking issue. I read somewhere that the new holder and pre-new holder can only be stacked in a certain order and not vice versa (new on old or old on new, I can't remember which). How does that work with the various holders? I store my slabs flat and stack them.

Looks like its the old Barex inner well resurrected. They are claiming no fault but they made the right move.

In layman terms...
It was damaging your expensive comics. We're sorry. We *SQUEE* up. Please forgive us.

Sounds safe to send books to CGC now?

Definitely should have been at the top of their announcement. Too late in my book, but for others an apologies can go a long way. What are the odds the customer ever gets an apology from CGC instead of a vague announcement. I'd say 5%.

I'd still give it a few more months. If good word of mouth starts spreading, I may send a batch in before my subscription expires in January.StarBrand wrote:Sounds safe to send books to CGC now?

I'm just happy CGC recognized the severity of the issue and worked on fixing the problem. CBCS are the definite winners during this debacle.

I'd say <1% public apology, given that there were/are some Golden Age comics in the new slabs being auctioned off via Heritage and other auction houses. An apology like that will just open CGC to potential reimbursements and/or lawsuits.michael wrote:+1greatbrandino11 wrote:In layman terms...

Well I'm very happy with that. That's what people have been asking for an actually comments and action by cgc. Shall I wait and see how the new cases are or mail my comics in now for re caseing?
I'm really tired of the hassle and worry.
How the hell do I wrap them up to send How do you guys do it??

Well, this is interesting indeed. I have a Eternal Warrior #1 (Gold Flat) signed by Frank Miller that has been at CGC for quite a while pending whatever they were going to do to fix their product.
I wasn't sure it eventually it would show up in a *NEW* holder, a *NEW* (*NEW*) holder, or an old holder.
Also, I have a Bloodshot #0 (Platinum Error) that is being signed by Joe Quesada and wasn't sure what would happen with that either! Man it would have sucked to get that impossible grail back only to discover engine creep had set in...
Both of these books (signed by these artists) are almost impossible to reproduce (at least affordably or logistically...). I'll lose my *SQUEE* if this gets fouled up by the *NEW* (*NEW*) holder design lol!

Re: CGC announces modified new holder 6/24/2016 (add inner w
I'd wait on the Bloodshot #0 (Platinum Error) or any valuable comic sending to CGC for at least 3 months. Week or two does nothing to prove new cases especially sense it takes months to get comics back or problems to show up some times. If there are problems or this is just a stop-gate, "which some people on CGC forum are saying", we will not know for some time "CGC certainly wont tell use". Remember, CGC said it would take 18 months to make a new case and that was last week. Let someone else be the guinea pig.

Re: CGC announces modified new holder 6/24/2016 (add inner w
There are already graded books at CGC being encapsulated as of the date they started using the new inner wells, those will likely only take a week to be shipped out to customers. So we should start seeing people post pictures of the new case inner wells within a week or two.michael wrote: Week or two does nothing to prove new cases especially sense it takes months to get comics back or problems to show up some times.
I don't recall seeing any mention of this. Source?michael wrote: Remember, CGC said it would take 18 months to make a new case and that was last week.

Re: CGC announces modified new holder 6/24/2016 (add inner w
No mention? only mentioned 100+ times on main CGCcomics forums. Most of them have been poofed by CGC so finding original would be pretty hard. But there are still many examples of this quote hidden within threads on CGC main board. If proper R&D is done 18 months makes perfect sense. I get it that the new/new case is half new half old but this doesn't speed up R&D. I can give you an example, but your right, I have no idea where it originates but it is common knowledge. CGC has a habit of poofing threads though. http://boards.collectors-society.com/ub ... 1&fpart=30" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; go to #9427198 on 06/25/16 for an example. There are many examples on many threads. I read the 18 month quote at least 100+ times on their main site. Especially in the now famous missing threads.Aram wrote:There are already graded books at CGC being encapsulated as of the date they started using the new inner wells, those will likely only take a week to be shipped out to customers. This means that very little R&D has been done on new/new case or CGC has been doing it for months while allowing us to buy a flawed case. I cant think of a third scenario. Therefore, either scenario puts little trust into CGC business practices. Must be nice to have a monopoly. This doesn't mean the new/new case isn't going to fix the problems. It means that someone else can be the guinea pig for a few months.
I only collect, never have sold any of my comics so CGC comic potentially being worth more is meaningless to me. I want the safest case I can buy that I don't have to replace every 10 years do to the micro-chamber paper. I've already moved on to CBCS and will stick with them unless they try something as "squishy" as CGC has.

This is a VALIANT discussion board, not CGC. Why would you expect us to frequent the CGC forums or know what is posted there? Some of us might, but I'm guessing more don't.michael wrote:No mention? only mentioned 100+ times on main CGCcomics forums.Aram wrote:There are already graded books at CGC being encapsulated as of the date they started using the new inner wells, those will likely only take a week to be shipped out to customers. Hmm, 18 months???
Well, now I am stuck! Sept I will be going to a Con and Matt Kindt will be there. Me being just a Noob, should I stay away from CGC? Go CBCS?
I will have him sign 4001AD 1-4 1:100 and Divinity II #1 1:80.
Not to muck up or steal the thread, but any and all help/advice would be greatly appreciated. You can PM me with advice, just want to get this right
