Absolutely. I am already thinking what will happen to my collection, when I'm gone. Hope that my kid makes a buck out of a box full of variants.possumgrease wrote:Since this thread is going everywhere, do you ever feel burdened by your collection? I have so much stuff that I know is dreck, but there's this nagging thought that it might be worth something one day that keeps me lugging those boxes around.

What bothers me more at the moment is that i'm running out of space in the house for my action figs colections. I collect carded stuff, mainly, and it's getting harder to find the space to store the boxes.

Re: The
The only time I feel burdened by my collection is when I've run out of room in my boxes to put new ones, and I have to buy another one to store them in (I don't have space for more boxes but I'm damned if I'm gonna stop buying comics!)ShadowTuga wrote:Absolutely. I feel burdened that I don't have enough time for conserving and organizing. I have some runs that are beautifully organized, labeled and with uniform bags and boards. However, most of it is chaotic, thrown in mixed boxes after several moves.

I'm sort of in the same boat. I know exactly where my Avengers and Iron Man and Valiant stuff is. The other 15 long boxes is anyone's guess.nycjadie wrote:I feel burdened that I don't have enough time for conserving and organizing. You bought something from me once, and I asked you if it got there safely. Your response was that you didn't open it and put it away so that in the future you would open it up and be surprised.greg wrote:I've been rearranging boxes in my storage unit and realizing that at some point in the past 20 years, I have purposefully adopted a "I don't remember" style of collecting. What I mean is that I was always fascinated by stories of kids who find their grandfather's comics or baseball cards in the attic, and they literally have no idea what is in the collection or what it might currently be worth.
Somewhere along the way, I started buying a few things that I purposefully tried to forget immediately... so that someday, I'll be able to open a box and have only a vague recollection of purchasing the items. It has already happened a couple of times, where I opened a box and was happy to find that I had no idea what book might be next as I flipped through.
While I like to joke that I'm "in my late 40" (since I'll be 41 in April), I don't think it is early onset dementia... but evidence that I've actually succeeded in surprising myself with stuff I don't remember buying.![]()
That said, there's a chance I've already told this story on the board. In that case, it may be early onset dementia.
I remember thinking....,,to each their own

Pull List: I only buy TPB's, HC's and Hellboy comics

Others on this board would think that sounds small. Greg prolly has 15 that he forgot where he put.Shadowman99 wrote:jmatt wrote:...15 long boxes...![]()

Re: The "I don't remember" style of collecting...
I only started collecting comics when VEI launched and even then I'm really only reading Valiant and the occasional indie miniseries, so I'm never going to fill comic boxes quickly - no point in making a *SQUEE* contest out of this one from my perspective!jmatt wrote:Others on this board would think that sounds small. Longboxes are like a box of chock-latts.

But how can you be sure that you haven't forgotten some?greg wrote:I know where they are...

I was talking about knowing where my longboxes are. If I check the couch cushions and find a longbox I didn't know was there, then something is wrong with me beyond what the paperwork already says.Shadowman99 wrote:jmatt wrote:But how can you be sure that you haven't forgotten some?greg wrote:I know where they are...

Or that's one finely crafted couch to be able to hide a longbox worth of comics!! That would be a couch along the lines of a Tardis.greg wrote:I was talking about knowing where my longboxes are.
