I'm not sure how the five month gap between Harbinger Renegade (#4 & #5, if I'm not mistaken) is going to help that title grab new readership...

Divinity has now become a franchise player, something should always be in progress for him and his supporting cast...

Bloodshot #0 & then Bloodshot Salvation (New #1?) will give that title a boost...

Ninjak, thee, franchise player, who gets more burn than anybody across the board, needs a spark if the numbering is going to continue into the thirties. A new #1 can't be far off...

Faith is hanging in there, but the hype is dying down...

I honestly thought Savage would peek new reader interest...

It's Good to see Valiant doing well in the industry. I was worried this catering to a different reader would hurt Valiant. Glad to see I was wrong.

I wondered about how sales will stay with Harby, too. I wonder if they are looking to just market it as issue one of a new arc, as instead of just a regular issue 5?

Gen Zero couldn't find an audience...

Gen Zero suffered from 1st issue negativity among the readers. The first issue didn't really have the team in it, and that just threw things off so much that the negative 'vibes' spread through the message board and other fan places. By the time we got to some really cool/deep character moments that made me want to see more of this team, they had already announced it was ending. I think the series could have grown on some people if it was given some more time.

Edit: Same problem as Shadowman really: not enough emotional connection with the person/team headlining the book. We got more emotionally connected to Keisha and her brother in this title than the main characters!

Ultimately, all that will matter is whether the graphic novels read well. Individual issues that don't satisfy are only a problem for one month, after that, there are at least two months of the arc available... and the graphic novels containing the whole arc will be available forever.

Valiant has established its "first month" readership for the most part. These monthly numbers have looked about the same for 5+ years. What Valiant hasn't done is captured every person who will eventually be a Valiant fan... that's the job of the graphic novels and that's why they are never out of print.

I think, aside from the X-O relaunch, the days of ongoings (12+ issues) might be over...
It's not only Valiant's problem, but that of most small publishers. Here's a year to year comparison:
