A lot of Marvel books from 2002 to maybe 2007 or so had very thin waxy pages that have a tendency for the middle spread to be easily, accidentally popped off the staples when read. Anyone else remember this?

YES. Several times. It was highly aggravating.

Dude, that year was just frustrating as a collector. Every month I had a Valiant book that was bent, creased or about to be. Luckily I was buying variants, so it was a matter of picking the least damaged copy.
I sent Dinesh a PM about it, and I know I wasn't the only one.
Glad that this issue is no longer a prob- I have been lucky for the last 3 to 3 1/2 yers. No bad books, at all. And the quality of the premium series is stunning.

My experience has been different, and outside of the prestige format, the quality of cover stock is worse and worse since launch.

Harbinger 1 from 2012 was maybe the worst cover quality I've ever seen.

ASM #301 and Watchmen #9 are hard to find in 9.8 runs of both books with much lower census number than other issues in the run.

 I remember flipping through those early VEIs and thinking, "this is a reg page, or is it just me?".
It was frustrating, seriously. Comics are expensive, quality of cover stock should be a Must for every publisher. It is attractive to non-readers, I can tell from experience.

Jadie, tough luck bro. I really thought that VEI had addressed that issue (I suspect that if it persists, it is just manhandling when unpacking, which is random as F- I have a guy on my LCS that I really don't want to touch my books :D )

Saga 1 being all white and not very rigid. Specifically, the fourth print the :censored: 2&C non comic enthusiast biffed off the countertop whilst fussing with a sticker!! :!: I will hate myself for asking about the print edition instead of just taking it to the register myself and walking it out the door for the rest of my comic life...

PS I still bought it for $20 (they knocked off 5 and I got a call from the district manager lol) even though it now has 5 creases instead of 1, in case you were curious.
