The precedent exists, with #19 of the first volume of Shadowman and the appearance of Aerosmith. Maybe Valiant should have waited until Shadowman 19?

I am not at all familiar with Rae Sremmurd. Do they have a significant fanbase that would buy more copies and boost numbers?

Also, a way to maybe get some new readers for the upcoming Shadowman series that'll hit in March 2018. If the synopsis of this one-shot is they all go to New Orleans, maybe it's setting everything back up to kick back off there.

I don't know the musicians, but I like this concept. This cover is both awesome and comical; Magpie gettin' crunk:

I just really hope they lose the Magpie look at some point. I still don't understand the ropes being there after Operation: Deadside.

Rae Sremmurd = "Drummers Ear" spelled backwards.

This does seem rather jump the sharky. And again with the ROPES?! WTH?! They need to get Shadowman and Jack right before they start doing gimmicky stuff like this with him. Yeeesh. He hasn't even picked up a saxophone yet and they have him crossing over with musical acts? Between this and Harbinger #5 I really wonder what the heck is going on with the powers that be over at Valiant?

Get jack right first!

There needs to be an Overwatch crossover comic next. The voice actor for Lucio is already in the Vanquished Live RPG so Valiant already has a connection to Blizzard through Jonny Cruz.

Feels like Shadowman is being somewhat forced into the Valiant U lately...

I liked Operation Deadside - it had a decent plot and Shadowman was well written, the character had a logical purpose for appearing in that arc which made sense.

Shadowman 4001, while I liked the story as a one-shot, wasn't really necessary. a different character or group of characters might"ve been better served taking up that slot in the 4001 event.

Then there's the Divinity III one-shot which really did nothing for Shadowman as a character. kind of a 'read and forget' issue for me.

I'm not up on Rapture so can't comment on how that mini is tracking.

Now this? Is it even cannon? Pure marketing to promote Shadowman as a character and a primer to next year perhaps. Just feels odd, I mean, I get it if this was a one shot for an established character with their own series, something a little fun and lighthearted which serves as a brief diversion from the series-main but right now - just doesn't feel right.

Despite all of the above I'll stick pick it up in hopes that it's better than Milligan's last two arcs on the series.

Totally agree. People are waiting with bated breath for Shadowman to get back in action. This just seems like a really weird choice for an interlude as the waiting continues.

But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and see what they have in store.

Did Aerosmith fans significantly boost sales for Shadowman 19? I'm not trying to be sarcastic - this is a legitimate question.

This looks bad.

 I'm a massive hip-hop fan, and a musician crossover one-shot sounds awesome, but Rae Sremmurd is literally the worst possible option they could've went with. They're seriously awful. They're like everything that's wrong with the hip-hop industry all rolled up into one worthless, mass-produced, lowest-common-denominator ball of crap.

Sorry Valiant, I've loved nearly everything you've put out, but this is a bad decision. I will not be buying this.

EDIT: Oh, and here's a few examples, if anyone's interested.
This was their first #1 (4x Platinum). It came out last year, and I'm sure you guys have probably heard it somewhere.

Agreed. I'm not sure who this is for exactly. There are Shadowman fans out there, but I can't imagine this tease will be appreciated while the solo series isn't returning until next March. Also, I'd be skeptical that any musician would bring substantial new readers, especially without an ongoing for them to jump onto. This feels like they just threw in another homage one shot, in the spirit of not-at-all-weak Aerosmith issue from the 90s.

Anyone think this has more to do with VEI trying to get more cross-entertainment industry exposure along the lines of the Vans Warped Tour sponsorship? Shadowman didn't show up there, so maybe this is his music industry connection... although I have to think there must have been a better option than Rae Sremmud (who I'll admit I had never heard of until now).

Was the Faith/Keep-a-breast comic at the Warped Tour a freebie? Maybe this will be a giveaway at record stores. I don't really understand it otherwise.
