What comics are you reading now?

String wrote:Just finished reading #6 of the Usagi Yojimbo Senso mini. Brilliant finish to a terrific mini, the ending left me feeling sadness which was transformed into a strong feeling of hope, all within a few pages. Stan Sakai is a true master of his craft.

Comixology recently acquired Humanoid's reprints of the classic French sci-fi sagas the Incal and the Metabarons. I bought the Incal Vol. 1 years ago when Epic reprinted it and I've never been able to finish it and I've heard nothing but great reviews about the Metabarons. So finally looking forward to reading these series.
I been meaning to get into Usagi Yojimbo series, but never found time or the money to get it. I'm excited about Humanoids on Comixology, as I been very patient to get my hands on a digital copy of Metabarons series. I too bought the first volume of Incal which was on sale with their initial release on the app.

Right now I'm reading THE RETURNING mini-series from BOOM. Written by Jason Starr and art by Andrea Mutti. I just started it so I don't know what to think of it yet. I'm generally not into horror, but if it's a thriller/mystery slant...then I can deal with gore. I would rather give the link to the book than to spoil any of it here. https://www.comixology.com/The-Returnin ... omic/81584" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Began slowly working my way through the complete 50 issue Ms. Tree run. Extremely glad I did. I read each issue from cover to cover, including letters pages and any sort of publisher commentary.
Also working my way through Charlton's Yang, and recently read all three issues of Atlas' Police Action.

I just finished the first arc of Copperhead. I really liked it.

I don't know if I should laugh or cry. :?

At first glance it would be easy to write it off as a lesbian rom-com version of 50 Shades of Grey (and all I've heard is that the books suck and the movie is boring) and I can't to help but if Top Cow published Sunstone vol. 1 to time with the release of a movie. What I do like about it (besides the sex) is that it in at least in vol. 1 in that trying to say that the women are well adjusted and don't have to the personal dark tradegies that most stories with BDSM almost always have. They just enjoy a form of sex that I find more personally weird than disturbing. It's laced with a lot of humor aimed at MMO and gamer tropes that I find very funny. I think it tries to show a changing world of sexuality, technology, and culture. The art is pretty good but at times I found the sexual stuff walking a fine line but with more stuff being described than actually shown which is weird in this kind of book my only real problem is the lack of an ending or even a cliffhanger it just stops and goes into a bonus section that is just as interesting as the book. In the end if you're looking for a book that is just porn or a BDSM guidebook you will be disappointed while BDSM isn't my thing I do think it does a good job of at least trying to explain it's appeal to some people. It's a if you're wanted something that is funny, erotic, and feels like it has something to say you could do a lot worse.
Not bad as set up goes but as a single stand alone graphic novel it's not great either. It has potentional to be something great if future volumes live up to that potentional.

Very true. I was really excited about Death Vigil and was willing to buy anything with his name on it at the time.

Still like Death Vigil. The Grim Reaper has Nightwish on her walkman.

Finished Spectre: Wrath of God TPB from the 1990's John Ostrander and Tom Mandrake run and I give it a thumbs up. I think you have to like the supernatural characters to enjoy it though cause it got kind of slow in parts. This is the second TPB in the series and I don't have the first and admit I might have enjoyed it more if I had read that one first.

I read Justice League Dark #38 last night, a very trippy storyline going on there. When the title ends I'll be glad I was on the ride but I won't be picking up Dark Universe(the rumored renaming of the title).
Swamp Thing #39--the saga of the Machine Queen has been a great story and the issue ends on a surprising last page! Can't believe the title is ending at #40. This has easily been a top 5 written book since the nu52 branding relaunch, I'll miss it.

I picked up Spawn #250 even though I've not actively followed the book in some time. Last issue I read was #200. I got a few pages into this extra sized issue and realized it was too late, 11pm plus was becoming evident. I will say that Sam&Twitch were featured which are characters I did read of "back in the day". There was lots of narrative in the 5/6 pages I read about a massive insect and varmint swarm taking place choking the city. No Spawn yet to appear, all set up in the first few pages. I'll finish it tonight!

Just finished the first 3 Batman: No Man's Land trades. About to tear into the last two. I wish I had known there were new printings that include the Robin, Catwoman, Azrael and Nightwing issues, but at least I got them cheap. $2.50 each at NC Comic Con.

I really miss comics like this. Decompression-lite. Serious and gloomy as the situation calls for but not overly dark for dark's sake. Although it is a pretty dark story. Some parts are a little corny and it's hard to get past the absurdity of some of the situations, but that's part of what I love about comics. I read a lot of No Man's Land when it came out, but I missed the beginning and it was cool to catch up.

My favorite arc definitely has to be the Poison Ivy / Clayface story where Ivy has set up in Gotham Park and is providing a lush, green sanctuary for the abandoned orphans of Gotham. The story is really enhanced by the art with the unlikely team of Dan Jurgens on pencils with Bill Sienkewicz on inks. Really nice looking and a perfect mixture of both of their styles. I wish they'd worked together more.

Jon Bogdanove and Eduardo Baretto are another unusual pencils / inks team that works really well. Bogdanove is make or break with whoever is inking him. Sometimes he looks great (here), sometimes he looks like sh!t (much of his Superman run, unfortunately).

Just got caught up on:

TWD. Wow. As good as it's ever been.
East of West. It tied with Harby/X-O for my favorite reads in the last few years. Amazing
Manifest Destiny. Something finally happened. It was worth the wait. Dig this book.

There's a dude on the CGC site that has (claimed) to read over 900 comics already. I think he's full of *SQUEE*, but if anyone wants to believe him, they are welcome to it.

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

Very interesting! Kind of dark, and weirdly funny. I definitely want to read more!

:)

I can't wait to get the TPBs of all of these from my library. I am up to the last trade of TWD (130, I think?) and it really is good stuff. East Of West is one of the best titles out there right now, IMHO - I am waiting for vol. 3 of the trades. Manifest Destiny is odd but good, but I have only read up through #7.

I am waiting for someone to finally option the last two for a TV series. EoW would probably have to be HBO or some other pay-channel, while I think someone could do MD on cable.

;)
