What I have observed is that a few hard core Valiant Collectors have decided to sell after hearing the DMG and Dinesh news.

Concurrently, many non-traditional Valiant speculators and investors have sinced jumped on board, as they seem to see the news as a stronger indicator of future success and ROI.

We have actually seen some very strong market activity in the past 1-2 weeks, which appears to show more of an instance where books are changing hands more than any loss of interest.

On the contrary, there appears to be a lot of talk all over about Valiant and future potential.

The stories we enjoyed for the past 26+ years have not changed, so there is no reason for me (or anyone really) to sell off his/her favorite books from 1992, 2012, or 2015 (for example) because of a management change in 2018.

It’s like selling off your Amazing Fantasy #15 or Captain America #1 because Disney bought Marvel.

I do hope some things with Valiant remain the same, such as the publication of Rai. What I don't want is a few issues containing Crain's art, then 3-5 fill-in issues while Crain's taking time on his subsequent issues. Unfortunately, I can't see a corporate entity allowing what weve seen of Rai's publication schedule.

I'm glad VEI gave Crain the time he needed to do all 16 issues of Rai, but after seeing CAFU on the 4001 tie-in issues, I'm actually for different artists to take over Rai. Clayton Crain is great, but his style can get a little old imo.

CAFU was great....But what I don't want is someone else coming in to do a rush-job, or a mediocre artist doing a few issues until the main artist comes back. That's the most likely scenario, unless it's pre-planned like those CAFU issues or the Jupiter's Legacy prequels (Jupiter's Circle) while Millar was waiting for Quitely to do the next part of the Jupiter's Legacy run.

People can decide whatever they want, but "now" is possibly the worst time to sell if they are looking to cash in. They certainly will not have a hard time pushing keys and grails at the moment, since there appears to be a lot of new interest brewing.

Valiant's relaunch has, overall, been substantially better than the original run of Valiant. I've been re-reading all of the old Valiant books these past couple of years and it's mostly the Jim Shooter ones that are great. Within a few months of his departure everything except X-0 fell apart. Bad modern Valiant books have been quite rare for me. I don't expect to see any dips in quality until after HW2. Fingers crossed -- maybe there won't even be a drop after that. I'm certainly not giving up any of the existing books; I'm in it because I love them, not because I want to make money off them.

I'm far more concerned about the seemingly bleak future of Doctor Who, but I'm not going to throw away 40+ years of being a fan because of a pathetic gender swap and even more disastrous changes by the incoming show-runner. If the new season sucks I'll quit watching, and so will nearly everyone else. Doctor Who will be canceled, disappear from TV screens for a decade or so, then come back, revised to eliminate the offensive changes from its history. Nothing will change the fact that the original run of Doctor Who is good and worth keeping.

If most of the current talent at Valiant drops (quit/terminated) then I'll probably know Valiant is done. For now, I'm all in.

Holy cow. After being away from this site for awhile, I've just spent the last hour reading about the DMG buyout and their ejection of Mr. Shamdasani from the company he built. I'm compelled to leave a note about an encounter I had with Mr. S at NYCC a few years ago. Late on a Sunday afternoon, I circled back around to the VEI booth because I'd decided--after some deliberation--to buy a Shadowman coffee mug. Arriving near closing time, I saw there were only 3 people working the booth, and before I'd opened my mouth to inquire about the item, 2 of those 3 people left the area to get packing supplies. The 1 person remaining told me there should've been a mug still available, but he didn't have it at hand. He looked and looked in the booth, but couldn't find it. After a few minutes, I thanked him for his help, apologized for bothering him while they were closing up, and told him not to worry about it. He very kindly replied that he was sure he had one, and asked me to hang on for a bit longer. He then went through a number of boxes himself, with no one to help him, but, in short order, he located a mug and then sold it to me for a few dollars off because the original packaging was missing. That booth-worker was Valiant's CEO.

I couldn't believe that a guy running an entertainment company would (a) take up his own time to sell promotional porcelain, (b) sell said porcelain by himself at closing time at the end of a busy con weekend, and (c) undertake a needle-in-a-haystack search, delaying his departure time, just to find 1 friggin' mug, which he would then sell to 1 customer at a friggin' discount. THAT'S the kind of guy I want to run a company in the 21st century: how many CEOs give a rat's !ss about the individual people buying their products or services--or anything beyond their own salaries or Tinder feeds--in this era of remote-control management? Whatever Dinesh does next, I hope he makes enough money to buy a resort island off of it, and I hope that the company he just left makes a gazillion dollars, proving that he was right all along about the quality of the artists and the artwork he promoted.

My well-stocked V1-Acclaim-VEI collection ain't going anywhere.
