Original Art?
Hey guys,
haven't been around much lately, I'm curious for the original art guys if they can chime in on this image. It's listed for sale at a local auction house, no details given (says original art) but I'm wondering if it's just some kind of print? It doesn't have any inscriptions or anything to tell me this is original art?

Re: Original Art?
There's another original art listed as 'kiss' but it's actually lobo from the 90s. So I know the auction house knows nothing about either piece....

From the artwork, some type of McFarlane? The Hulk definitely looks like his style.

Re: Original Art?
I agree that it looks like McFarlane art. But comic art is typically on 11"x17" boards and this does not appear to be 11"x17". Given how much McFarlane art usually goes for, I would stay away from bidding unless it's certified and authenticated by a reputable company.

Re: Original Art?
That's from McFarlane's Hulk run, but I would significantly doubt whether it's an original. One of his Hulk/Wolverine covers made a record sale in the last year or 2.

Re: Original Art?
There is a chance those are legit, but stolen. There are some news articles about stolen art from a couple years ago, but they don't list the pieces.

I'm pretty sure it's an interior page from ASM 328, or whatever book has spiderman driving a fist into hulk's gullet. I'll show you the other art they have, my concern is that it looks like a reprint?

Re: Original Art?
To me it just seems like someone copied these, doesn't original art have some kind of notation on it?

Re: Original Art?
No notation necessarily but it normally is on a pre-printed board like the below (not mine, just a random McFarlane page from CAF):GGSAE wrote:To me it just seems like someone copied these, doesn't original art have some kind of notation on it?

Re: Original Art?
Admittedly, I don't have as much experience with original art as a lot of these guys, but that doesn't look like original art to me. The product looks too finished. They look like prints to me, especially the Hulk/Spiderman piece.

Re: Original Art?
Here's another one that's 'not finished', but looks like someone's high school art project? I found this notation on the back too, I'm not sure what the written 'deleted' means. Maybe they realized it's not original art but are selling it as such anyway?Chiclo wrote:Admittedly, I don't have as much experience with original art as a lot of these guys, but that doesn't look like original art to me. Re: Original Art?
I'm thinking those are either scans that got re-inked, or they're light box traces. "Joshi, Rohit" is a great clue, because these pieces have nothing in common so having them all attributed to the same non-artist is a good indication that they're just some guy's project (high school or otherwise).
