CGC success story
Thought I would share this. About 4 months ago I bought an ASM 129 (CGC 9.0) on eBay. The comic had white pages and looked pretty good except for a small crunched corner and it was tilted in the slab a little. The seller said it had never been pressed so I took my chances and sent it in to CGC for crack/press/re-grade. The book came back a 9.6!! I was pretty happy to say the least. When it was delivered, the case was cracked! I had to send it back in for a re-holder. That was a P.I.A but thankfully they covered all the costs. It was delivered for the second time last night and it was flawless. It is now officially the most valuable book I own.

Yeah I was pumped. I have had some minor victories with comics but nothing like this. My wife was even mildly impressed. Haha.

Re: CGC success story
Thanks guys. And yeah, I would normally never divulge any information about comic costs or values to my wife. She doesn't ask so I never offer up. In this case, she noticed my good mood when I came home from work and asked why I was in such a good mood. (She knew it couldn't have been work related happiness. Ha.) I guess my judgement was clouded and I spilled the beans.

That's a lot better outcome than my T.O.S. #39 experience. I'm glad it worked out that well for you!

This was something that happened a few years back and pictured here... The "disaster" in question was directly tied to the T.O.S. #39 submission. The rest of the books were fine.Summydad1 wrote:Yes, please do tell.
It's all in the link above, but the short of it is:
-had, in-hand a T.O.S. #39 Blue Label, 4.0. Never pressed, never cleaned
-Submitted this same T.O.S. #39 to the CGC convention booth for crack, on-site press, re-grade
-received from CGC a T.O.S. #39 Blue Label, 3.5 after pressed
-had a long, overtly calm discussion with CGC about the threshholds of half point observations when combined with defect elimination from pressing
-left the convention without a T.O.S. #39, which was sent to Florida for re-evaluation at the CGC's home office
-received from CGC, via mail, a T.O.S. #39 Blue Label, 4.0 after press, after re-evaluation
-paid CGC for their slabbing and Classic Collectibles for their pressing $4xx for their services for this bulk of submissions

Re: CGC success story
The upshot is that a purple label was never part of the story.myron wrote:f-me...that's a kick square in the nads...IMJ wrote:nycjadie wrote:Do tell!IMJ wrote:That's a lot better outcome than my T.O.S. #39 experience. Re: CGC success story
True, but that would've been twice the negative reveal for CGC considering it was originally graded by CGC as a blue 4.0 as opposed to CBCS or even worse, PGX. Maybe there are conspiracy reasons that there was never a purple label.....greg wrote:The upshot is that a purple label was never part of the story.myron wrote:f-me...that's a kick square in the nads...IMJ wrote:nycjadie wrote:Do tell!IMJ wrote:That's a lot better outcome than my T.O.S. #39 experience. Probably not.
