Livewire #1 Discussion

Post by DirtbagSailor »

My published review will hit the web in a few days; in the meantime let me say that Livewire #1 is actually a decent book that goes a LONG way in addressing significant ethical and problematic issues with Harbinger Wars II.

As you may know, I was (and remain) HIGHLY critical about Harbinger Wars II. It was questionably conceived and poorly executed without debate.

However, it is VERY CLEAR that the vocal backlash about HW II has been heard, and action subsequently taken.

Understood that some fans are anxiously waiting for a failure from the post Dinesh VEI; however, Livewire #1 (in my honest opinion) is NOT that book.

Bloodshot Rising Spirit might be a different discussion (jury is still out), but I ask that Livewire #1 be read and assessed fairly. It is not bad! :thumb:

EDIT:

Read my review below.

After the disappointing Rising Spirit #1 it’s reassuring to know we can expect better things from Livewire #1 (from a reliable source) :thumb:

I was completely turned off Livewire following HWII but since reading previews of #1 and some author interviews I'm actually pretty excited for this book.

It is not; it will be soon.

I receive all VEI titles the week prior to release so that I can review them. :thumb:

I dunno. She still doesn't get it. I get the sense they're gonna make her walk Harada's path of "by any means necessary." Will it move toward introspection and an admission of the horrors she's caused? Or will she go full-on villain and rejoin Toyo?

Quibbles:

Now she flies and floats without her flight suit?

Did she just rescue a falling boy and put him back in a crashing airplane?!

And how, exactly, did she help that plane land? That one panel makes it seem like she stopped all of the flying and disintegrating parts. Again, that's more Harada than the Livewire I know.

And finally, while we've seen this before, not only can she control digital devices, she can move them around telepathically. How? Can she move a rock or a chair around too?

Unfortunately. If this and Bloodshot are the new DMG material, I'm starting to appreciate the replacement of Illidge. I say that with no joy.

Livewire is all powerful, let’s just say that now.

She can fly with no suit, she is faster than a speeding bullet and can save people that fell from the plane and put them back inside of the plane, stop the mid air collision of two very large airplanes from falling to the ground and piece them back together all before they hit the ground and make them strong enough to land properly. In the pre-order, Vita explained that one plane was taking off while the other was landing. Add that to the loopieness that was this book

Oh, she’s bad arse too! She can take on 6 highly trained soldiers and hold her own, while under sedation. She can mentally tear apart a gun, I mean disintegrate a gun from someone’s hand by just using her mind!

I want good books from valiant thats all I want. I am not anxiously waiting for books to fail. They are doing that on their own. I dont have money to drop on dead drop type of publishing valiant or not. And I am thankful I didnt get live wire.
Again Dmg has alot of work to do and I think re reading all of the stuff from 2012 is a good place to start.
I Miss the good old days.

I thought it was ‘ok’, not great but not as bad as Bloodshot RS #1. Good to see Allen back on the art so it had a familiar feel. Took me a bit to figure out the airplane scene, thought one was under water at first but realised the colour change was because it was the perspective of someone looking at it through the other planes window. I like Patricia Martin’s colours too, very stylish .

3.75/5

You forgot that she can turn off the entirety of the United States electrical grid in 20 seconds and turn Bloodshot into a demon.

It's ridiculous. They have her powerset amped up beyond what I would accept with Harada.

I like that there is still tension with the Secret Weapons crew, but I think Ayala thinks she's writing Superman.

Its women for woman sakes. It has nothing to do with who a better villain war monger was choosen over others because she is a she. Same with faith and live wire. You know you and I could write any charater better than dmg at this point im still hopeful they can turn this around.

Good point. She is just getting stronger and stronger with little charater growth to explain it.
