Mambo #5!

Ladies and gentlemen, this is Mambo Number Five
One, two, three, four, five
Everybody in the car, so come on, let's ride
To the liquor store around the corner
The boys say they want some gin and juice
But I really don't wanna
Beer bust like I had last week
I must stay deep because talk is cheap
I like Mary, Roku, Ana and Neela
And as I continue you know they getting sweeter
So what can I do? I really beg you, my Lord
To me is flirting it's just like sport, anything fly
It's all good, let me dump it, please set in the trumpet
A little bit of Shadowman in my life
A little Aric’s blue girl by my side
A little bit of Roku is all I need
A little bit of Neela is what I see
A little War Mother in the sun
A little bit of Mary all night long
A little bit of Mambo, here I am
A little bit of you makes me your fan
Mambo Number Five 8-)

Could have easily been a 2 or 3 issue series. Far too much build up for far too little payoff especially since other than the last four pages nothing in this entire series moves Punk Mambo forward as a character or changes her piece of the VEI universe. So, yeah, the more I think about it, this could have really been a tight 30-48 page one-shot.

The best thing about this series was Adam Gorham’s art. Bunn’s story did not make me want to pick up the next series he’s writing about a B list character in Roku, it wasn’t bad by any means but didn’t keep me interested.

The magic side of the Valiant universe just doesn’t interest me so I’m out for any future Shadowman, Punk Mambo or anything else Deadside related.

3.25/5

Overall, this was ok, had some good art. Nothing mind blowing story wise, but the ending does show that, there is a plan in place and they’re playing the long game with Punk, and I like that. Keep building... :thumb:
