Re: Rai 0 manufacturing error on Ebay
I'm a little confused about how the back cover can have so much black when the fromt has almost none. The front and back are the same sheet of paper.

Thinking sun-faded? If the red holds up and the black doesn't, seems possible.

That was my thought as wellckb wrote:Thinking sun-faded? If the red holds up and the black doesn't, seems possible.

Right, the red should have faded but I don't know how the back cover can be so dark and the front not have the same black ink printed at the same time on the same side of the page (before it was folded).labratnotincluded wrote:That was my thought as wellckb wrote:Thinking sun-faded? I don't know enough about the printing process, but is it possible that the black separation for the front cover was missing?
There's probably a clue in the "shadow" of the RAI about a half inch higher inside the title box.
Anyway, it's a pretty cool error, something probably went wrong during manufacturing (as opposed to sun-faded) and sellers can ask whatever price they like for their stuff. I wonder what the asking price would have been for a 9.8?

That's a discount.Daniel Jackson wrote:$14,999.99 and still wants $29.99 for shipping....
USPS Registered Mail for a $14,999 declared/insured value is $39.70 added to the regular shipping charge.

Re: Rai 0 manufacturing error on Ebay
Realistically, what is a manufacturing error such as this worth? I recently had my X-O Manowar #0 with no white layer on the cover graded (9.8, btw), and I know it is worth nowhere near $15k. The seller obviously knows enough about the book that I can't believe he truly thinks it is worth that much money. I'm thinking the seller would accept an offer of $1k without hesitation.

Re: Rai 0 manufacturing error on Ebay
I think it’s worth less than $200, and that’s only because the price of a 9.8 has gone up in price due to the movie. A year ago, maybe $100. It’s an interesting oddity, at best.

I don't even find it interesting. The defect does not make the book visually appealing, but rather makes it look defective. $10 worth at best.

Re: Rai 0 manufacturing error on Ebay
I think it's opportunism to call it a "variant". It's a poorly printed comic. I'm more interested in how evenly distributed the lack of ink is on the front cover (as an oddity). It would seem to me that if the press was running low on ink at that point in the run, the front cover would be more patchwork of correct ink and lighter tone ink, but the whole cover is sort of attractively screwed up.
But with that said, calling that a variant and asking 15k? I'd be happy to see this one go down in flames....
