Re: Bragging rights - your best deal of late?
it's definitely NOT a beat- them -up book. it's more like a super hero drama so far. enjoying it so far. origin was ok, well origins are hard. just found out in issue 8, why he was court-martial ed and trailed as a traitor and happened to him . so not everything just dumped on you at the start
it's funny how you have questions in your head about the story, and a character in the story address es the point.
found out issue '42 'is a hot book. first appearance of death? the endless ?in the DC universe. so got that for 10p - and a great cover!

I wish their was a Spinal Tap comic, and I had a copy CGC graded at 11.

Captain Atom 42
first appearance of death.
meaning of life = 42=death
that's how my brain works during isolation. I actually laughed when I thought of this, so posted it.
off to the loony bin now

I have found two copies of this TPB out in the wild and I am happy to have a high grade copy graded by CGC in my collection:

That's really awesome! I have two copies, but I doubt my best copy is more than an 8.0 -- really hard to find at a good price.

Re: Bragging rights - your best deal of late?
A few weeks ago I was in Raleigh, NC taking my wife and daughter shopping prior to our move to Japan. Popped into a comic store and they had five long boxes of Valiant. I wasn't expecting to find anything but ended finding the following VVSS books (NM): Armorines, Bloodshot, and Geomancer. Offered the owner $20 per book and he accepted. Made my day to find VVSS in the wild and get a good deal.

Very cool! I worked for Ken at the Hillsborough St store in the early to mid 1990’s during the beginning of Valiant and the death of Superman. Funnest job I ever had. I bought all my first Valiant books from Foundations Edge though during a sale they had. Thanks and good luck in Japan.

I found some great Valiant books myself when I was in the Raleigh area last year. There are still Valiant gems in the wild for all of us to find.tarheelmarine wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2020 6:11:35 pm A few weeks ago I was in Raleigh, NC taking my wife and daughter shopping prior to our move to Japan. I checked out Foundations Edge as well. They were super nice and held some "new release" books for me. Talk about a massive back issue collection they have. I could easily spend a week going thru their stock.geocarr wrote: ↑Sun Aug 09, 2020 12:21:28 amVery cool! I went to Ultimate Comics Raleigh location this past weekend and had les than a pleasant experience. They weren't trying too hard at all to sell their back issues. I would think as niche of a market as Valiant is within the overall comic market, that retailers would work harder to move that stock when someone comes in saying they're willing to buy it.

Which location? I stopped into the one next Triangle Town Center to drop off XO 1/2 Gold for pressing and submission. They had some keys on the wall (Harby 1, Solar 10) but with the move I was not in the mood to buy duplicates. That location was super clean.geocarr wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2020 6:41:09 amCoolnesstarheelmarine wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2020 4:21:14 amI checked out Foundations Edge as well. I was surprised how many raw VH1 books they had on the wall but their prices were very inflated.
Harbinger 1 for $190
X-O Manowar 4 for $125
Eternal Warrior 1 Gold Embossed for $125
A&A #0 regular for $80
Ridiculousness

Re: Bragging rights - your best deal of late?
When I see high prices as the ones you listed, it makes me question the store. Doesn't the store realize that at that price point, a collector can get the same book in a CGC/CBCS slab?geocarr wrote: ↑Wed Aug 12, 2020 6:20:59 amI went to the Uktimate Comics on Capital Blvd.tarheelmarine wrote:Which location? I hate when shops ask for CGC graded prices on raw books. They didn't even bother to notice their A&A #0 wasn't gold. Greed like that makes me a former customer.nycjadie wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2020 9:01:36 pmHarbinger 1 for $190 - 9.6 costHarbinger 1 for $190

I bought two CGC graded copies of X-O 15 Kotaki variant in 9.4 and 9.6. Not sure yet if they were pressed. Grand total? $69 shipped!
They generally go for $100 raw, when you can find them.

Update: I was able to upgrade this slab with a CGC 9.8 copy!
I also acquired an Acclaim Quantum and Woody #1 Regular Cover CGC 9.8 for my collection. I have submitted several raw copies of the regular and painted variant covers to CGC in the last and could never garner anything higher than a 9.6.
Glad to finally have this book in my collection.
