Stay your tongue! I have watched all of Mutant X, all 66 episodes. That show fell off a cliff hard when they lost villainous Andy Warhol.
Definitely. It just went of the rails toward the end.
Mutant X is a good point of reference when trying to describe the poor quality of the DMG books of the last 5 years, though. :hm:
Don't know about that.

Also agree Shadowman would be a great next movie with VH1 being the inspiration.

Mutant X was fun. I'll take any superpowered shows - The Gifted, Alphas, etc.

JMS was working on a Shadowman script, but that clearly went nowhere.

All the movies went nowhere when DMG took over. I was most excited about the X-O Manowar movie that the Russo Bros wrote and were going to direct.

It feels like the golden age of super hero movies is over. Going to be a lot harder to get big budget funding for non big-name characters. Just look at all the recent flops and under-performances.

Which is why VALIANT needs to stop marketing itself as being superhero fiction and changing the narrative. Archer & Armstrong, the Timewalker, the Eternal Warrior, X-O Manowar, Ninjak, Bloodshot, etc are not superheroes. They're science fiction concepts.

Timewalker is no more a superhero than Doctor Who. Eternal Warrior is no more a superhero than Highlander. Ninjak is no more a superhero than James Bond. And so on and so forth.

Definitely, when it comes to marketing the term 'superhero' has gone from asset to liability in 10 years.

That always seemed like part of VALIANT's design, cover a broad range of genres while still being recognizable to comic book fans as 'superhero'.

Tons of action/adventure/sci-fi properties could easily be called superhero as well, the only difference seeming to be they don't come out of a shared comic book universe.

For example, the Martial Arts genre always involves people training their abilities to peak human or superhuman levels and then fighting. Just like Batman and countless other superheroes.

The Cyberpunk genre almost always involves people using technology to enhance their natural abilities, just like countless superheroes. When you include 'freak accident involving technology' these 2 categories cover most of the superheroes. The other being aliens from another planet or involving aliens, which is just pure sci-fi.

Supernatural 'magic' as well, but you could argue that's a technology, just a fictional one.

I tend to think that an A&A tv show would be really awesome if it were more based on the tone and elegant comedy of the BWS era. I like the initial VEI series of A&A but it’s missing an element that BWS did much better. And subsequent outings of A&A since have suffered as further, paler echoes of what makes those characters great.

However, I feel the opposite about Shadowman. I *really* dig VH1 Shadowman, but I am a bigger fan of the modern concept with the use of the Deadside and the Abbetors etc. I think various iterations of that under VEI have had varying degrees of success/quality, but I enjoy the core setup more and would prefer to see something like that take in a tv show or movie.

I agree that the Valiant universe would be better served if pushed forward as an interconnected group of science fiction/horror/etc. series in other media - these genres are more key to the characters fundamentals than having them be treated as part of a superhero universe.

If I see one more DMG Valiant series try to toss everyone together in the background of a plot that treats them like they’re part of a Justice League or Avengers type organization of superheroic pals in some generic crisis again, I might actually puke on it, haha!
