Ok, so I got this in today...sweet book, one of my all time favs, third copy I've ever owned....

And I wanted to see what you all thought the grade was.....and THEN...what grade you think the seller gave this book. ;)

Just for clarification, those are color breaking creases on the front cover, and those creases on the back cover are so severe, they distort the flow of the page (ie, it's no longer flat.)

Ok, let the fun begin!

Hmmm... looks like it's in the 4.5 to 5.5 range to me... VG to VG/FN...

I'd guess the seller thought it was NM-... but since that's not a choice...
I'll go with VF.
:P

Nah, I went with NM. Sure, it's a bit obvious, but it would be maddening enough the scuddle over to vc.com to make a poll about it.

What do I win if I'm right? The book itself?

ROFL!!!

I discovered I have to actually vote myself to see the results of the poll, so I am voting 'Fair'...so you all know that 1 Fair is me, and that Fair OBVIOUSLY isn't the grade the seller gave. ;)

I would give it around 5.0 =/- .5 hard to really tell from the picture...are those chips out of the top of the back cover?

betting the seller said VF+

I'm saying 3.0-4.0 tops. I've had experience with this type of ebay behaviour before. I'm sure the seller knew exactly how bad the book was but gave some type of qualifier line and the little picture just to increase the bids and $$. I also remeber a certain board member sticking up for me. So if you need someone to biatch too about the whole thing, I'm your man. Send me a pm or something. ;)

Ok, I think that's enough suspense. Thanks for those who participated in the poll! As of now, there have been 17 (minus mine) votes cast, with 6 at VF/NM, 5 at VF, and 2 at NM.

So, without further ado...here's the auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 2240443794

It's really a nice VG, and if you saw it in person, you'd likely agree; those creases on the back cover are not flat at all....sigh.

Guide for a VG is $100, so I effectively paid OVER Guide for a common, low grade..albeit key...book.

And..it's crap like this that I deal with on a weekly basis. Does anyone reading this think I'm being 'picky'? Or 'anal'? TWO full grades overgraded? This stuff just makes me pull out my hair, and I sit here and wonder....if THIS POWERSELLER with 9100+ FB can do it...why shouldn't I?

The answer's cause I don't have to live with HER, I have to live with ME, but that excuse gets weaker and weaker and weaker with every instance of this.

I have contacted the seller, and they said I could return it, so hopefully they will honor the fine print in their auctions...and pay return shipping.

We'll see.

If you paid with paypal you should challenge the purchase. I would also leave neutral feedback. That much of a grading difference has to be intentional.

I'd love to, but I broke my own rule and paid with a check. We'll see what happens. Sigh.
