sooo.....who here is gonna bid?
I may snipe it and slab it!
Then I may FINALLY have something that everyone wishes they had...aside from my super-sweet, immaculate and perfectly-centered Rai#3s
I mean, everybody's always like "how many CEARS and Unity #0 Reds do you have...?" nya nya nya! You don't really hear anybody ask you "how many Bloodshot #0 Platinum Errors do you have?"
I don't know...it's there and some lucky (and rich!) fan is gonna get a holy grail find...that is, IF it's the realy-real thing!
Nice to see things like this surface once in a while.

I hope the auction is real. That's all I can say.

I wouldn't trade my Layton X-O MANOWAR Statue for a stack of the "Platinum" Errors. To me, THAT is a Holy Grail item.DawgPhan wrote:I dont really think that this is the holy grail of valiant collecting...it is just another printing error...a well documented error, but an error none the less...seems like there are several books out there without the gold foil on them...

We ought to call the "Platinums" by what they really are...."Non-Gold Error Editions". Using the term "Platinum" seems to have elevated this mistake to mythic proportions.
Oh....and reserve was met on this at $500.---Steve

One more reason the authenticity is questionable. The title of the auction itself: Blodshot 0 Platnium Error
If you were selling a $750 comic, you'd at least make sure to spell the title right. Blodshot? Platnium? The title itself is an error. I don't know how he managed to spell the 0 correctly.

When the auction was first listed, I asked the seller for more information
about where he obtained the book. He replied today...
"I was working for a man in New Jersey who owned his own comicbook shop. I was in the Navy at the time and we were docked there for routine maintance on the ship. His order of books had arrived and I was helping him put them on display. He asked me if I saw the platinum addition of the new bloodshot and I told him no while I was putting his books on the shelf I asked if I could have a copy of Bloodshot 0 the regular cover and he said sure. I then picked up the Platinum book and asked him if I could have this one as well. He told me that was the book he was asking about earlier the only give them to the sellers not to the public. He didn't want it and let me have it and I have had it since."

Sounds like a load of bull to me.
There was no 'platinum retailer incentive' for Bloodshot 0 as far as anyone with any credibility has said, except for this seller. As far as we know, there was no way for a retailer to even be aware of the existence of this book, ESPECIALLY prior to seeing it which is what this guy is saying happened.
These books were a printing error or 'test' not a planned incentive. So, the 'advance knowledge' displayed by this shop owner pretty much seals this guys story as phony, doesn't it?
Where did he steal the scan from I wonder? If not that, he painted over the gold logo with gray paint. If not that....? I'm out of ideas. He can't have one as a result of the story he told, however.

I guess I read the story differently.mrwoogieman wrote:He can't have one as a result of the story he told, however.
If the dealer opened the boxes and saw it during his invoice-check,
then he would know it was in there, and that he didn't pay for it,
and the book itself would not be on the shelf yet.
The helper took the books to the shelf, but didn't notice it at that point.
The dealer asked the helper if he took the platinum one over,
but the helper said no... then discovered he did take it later.
Whether the story is true is one question... whether it could be true is different.

Okay, but what about the part where he's in the Navy and when he gets a shore leave pass, he goes and spends his time working in a comic shop?
Explain that one!
Seriously though, let's say the retailer sees the plat in the box, asks the kid if he saw it, then the kid says here it is, can I have it? Given the fact that the retailer was aware of the fact that a certain number of retailer incentives were included based upon regular issues ordered, why would he just give away his incentive to his employee? Surely, the retailer would have known that gold logo books were going for good dollars based upon prior sales, why wouldn't he want to reap the benefits?
Oh yeah, that's right: "He didn't want it".
Of course, what businessman would want the one issue that was worth at least 10 times what any other issue in the batch was worth? (assume a gold BS0 was selling for $35 at the time, regular cover price was $3.50).

Things were still hot when BS 0 came out. Giving away a premium is tough to swallow. They were liquid at $40.
The story does appear to have some basis in reality, as I do believe the Golds were given away to dealers who ordered a number of copies. So, it would have been possible to receive the error edition with your order.
Also, Bloodshot 0 was post Unity 1, which was the first "platinum" book. So the terminology was there.
Still, it's hard to take it all at face value.
By the way- is there any way to figure if the pictures are original or known scans? Maybe they were lifted?

This could be 100% legit, but I don't want anyone to get screwed, so a couple of things should be checked out first.
Off to the right of the "T" in "Bloodshot" there is what appears to be a mark or a bit of scanner dust. Compare this to previous pictures of the book to see if it's been lifted from anywhere. Request extra pictures with the platinum where a previous pic has never been taken, like next to a lamp or a teakettle. For $500+ he should be happy to jump through hoops.
If this is taken care of, then bid away and enjoy your new book! More power to him for finding something so HTF.
I've got no problems with his story. If it was a realistically priced store (not Wizard priced based), then considering how popular Valiants were at the time I doubt the storeowner would have gouged a friend for a premium comic. Plus, maybe he was following the true spirit of Valiant golds, which was to get them into the hands of the fans.

hrm... I think we should all chip in and buy it, then cut it up and give each person a piece. Then we'd all have it

asked for scans
I asked for scans being I want to win it. I will let you know his response. Although the calling wizard and bought off the rack is interesting and makes this auction suspect.
I contacted him the first day of the auction and asked for a pic of him holding the book to validate it. He finally replied tonight and said he would provide a pic of him holding the book. Once he does, I will upload it and share!
