An A-Z guide on CGC'ing
As a cgc newbie, I would love to see a more experience poster relate how to go about getting your books cgc'ed. From what to look for while judging if you should send them in, where to go to get a discount per book, to how long you should expect to wait until you realize your 9.8 Shadowman will never be seen again
I have a few good posts sent to me by pm but I'm not sure if the respected parties would prefer to have them made public so let’s start from scratch and work our way up. I want to send in 7 books to be cgc'ed. What do I need to do..

I'm sure you've already read my "general opinion"...
but here it is again for those who might be interested.

You will be submitting the comics directly to CGC, but if you use a
"sponsor's link", you can save up to 20% on the fees.
www.comicspriceguide.com
www.heritagecomics.com
www.gpanalysis.com
All three of these (and probably a few others) offer the 20% discount.
Find the link on their homepage and make sure you use it when you
are ready to fill out your submission forms.

I spoke with CGC regarding this. They informed me that it's a flat $20 fee for all modern books as long as they are under $200 in value.Valiant_1 wrote:Hey Greg! Are the discounts available for those of us who will be getting on-site CGC at Chicago>?
They didn't have a good explaination for the $200 value in relation to on-site grading. That value is supposed to be directly related to CGC's cost in insurance to mail the book back to you. If it's on-site, their obviously isn't any shipping.
I didn't ask about joining their "Collectors Society". If you joined this organization, you used to get a certain number of gradings done for free. I don't know if you can do this on-site. Anyone have any info on this?

CGC has differnt grading tiers based on both the publication date of the book, and it's "market value".
For a book to qualify for the "modern" tier, it must be published in 1975 or later, AND have a market value less than $200. If it fails the second criteria, it must be sumitted as an "economy" tier (assuming it meets the requitrement there as well.
That being said, "market value" is not a number set in stone. You can declare any market value you want for the books you submit, it's mainly used for insurance. If CGC feels that the market value is not accurate, that reserve the right to bump the book up to an appropriate tier, and charge you the additional fees.
I sent in a couple HG Hulk 181s, well no "economy" tier for those. Don't even try. But a spidey 39 with an value adjusted for grade in overstreet of about $350, I may just list that with a $250 market to make the "economy" limit.
I cannot think of a Valiant that I would list at a value above $200.
There are no discounts for on-site grading. You get all the money back in savings on shipping costs. They will accept coupons that you get from joining the CS, but you must have them in hand. These are usually for high-end submissions, "starndard" or "express". I would not 'waste' them on a modern.

Ok, let's make it super-simple.depluto wrote:OK, let's just pretend I'm a really dumb guy, and I've never sent anything in to be graded.
What's it gonna cost? Where do I send it? Anything else I need to know? Do I need to join that collector society?
How do I do this?
Go to this website:
http://www.cgccomics.com/index_cobrand. ... filiate=GP
This is the "submission form" for CGC on the official site.
You see "George Pantela" at the top because he is giving you 20% off
just for "mentioning his name". (His website is www.gpanalysis.com)
On this form, you will follow CGC's instructions, and you will get
20% off of their grading fees...
http://www.cgccomics.com/services/
There are instructions for shipping your books on the "fee page" above as well.
That should be it!

I went through the process and got 6 comics to submit for a total of 103.20, minus the 20% discount came to 76.80 (no idea where this number comes from) plus shipping for a grand total of 103.20 What a rip. It's like math for the politicians.
So I guess I'll be picking out a handful of comics to submit.
