Looks nice. Congrats. I know we've talked about it before, but I've forgotten, what are the criteria they judge? Is it completeness, quantity or quality? Some combination?ckb wrote:...but look what showed up in the mail today...

Okay... what exactly does that mean? CKB is #1, Rico is #2, and Greg is #3. WHAT DOES IT MEAN??? DO they have the most slabbed, the highest grade slabbed, the most of.....?????

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

Points. Each book is worth a certain number of points roughly based on its market value. If you go to the set page and click on the point value for a book, it will break it out into what points are awarded for each grade.magnusr wrote:Looks nice. Congrats. Rico and Greg have both made great strides recently in catching up to me. I am almost maxed out at all 9.8s in every slot. A Harbinger 1 9.8 or Solar 10 9.8 in my or Rico's set would tip the scales heavily, as points are hard to come by in these sets with most books "pegged" at 9.8.
My WTB posts recently have been aimed at getting the remaining 9.6s up to 9.8s, for the 'affordable' books. Still looking for Magnus 7, Solar 4, and Harbinger 6. I was successful in obtaining a Magnus 8 and 13 recently, the latter thanks to Greg.
Vintage Magnus 2-4 as well, but I'm going to have to submit those myself, or hope sckao gets lucky. No one else would bother trying.

Slow site, but I got the numbers. I could make a set with about 1000 points. As a completionist I see the temptation...ckb wrote:Points. All but a handful of the books in my set were submitted personally by me. I've been doing it since....uh...someone help me out here... Greg may remember...2000? 2001?gavster wrote:Excellent work, a quick question, how long did it take to get to this level from the first CGC VALIANT you got or sent off to the latest one.
If I was buying these already slabbed, I doubt that we would have so many sets this near completion. My submissions are responsible for quite a number of books in the registry. I haven't kept formal track, but the number of Valiant CGC slabs I've sold has to exceed 300, and the number in my personal collection exceeds 100.
Not that there are not other significant submitters! They do tend to want more $$ than me for thier slabs as well, though.
It's an interesting question - how long would it take to put together a 9.6+9.8 mixed set just buying off the open market...

It's really too hard to do. I would take pictures of the boxes they are in but you can't even read the top slab labels because of the bags the slabs are in.tarheelmarine wrote:It would be impressive to see a photo. Congrats!Elveen wrote:as always...... I wanna see pics of the books.....

My collection is in 5 CGC boxes, in alphabetical order, so the pre-unities are scattered. How would you get 50 slabs in a picture worth looking at, anyway?
Maybe I could put some on my display board, but even that thing is a pain to set up. The only reason I did it for the CGC collector newsletter story was because I needed to set the thing up anyway to make new shelves for it before the Chicago show that year.
