Other than the fact that it's really no one's business what I pay for my books...ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:Um.chainnball wrote:I told the seller I wouldn't divulge, sorry. I'm sure you would have bought them as well.
Is the seller someone on here?
If not, there's no reason not to divulge.
If so, and it was a condition of the sale, ok, fair enough....
But there's truly no need to keep such information private. One doesn't need to reveal the seller's id to reveal what was paid.
And we don't KNOW if we would have bought them, without knowing the price paid.![]()
(That's like the boss going around telling everyone not to say what they make, as if it's supposed to be some kind of secret, so no one complains about what they make, or uses it as justification to ask for a raise...that's silly. Major corporations tell EVERYONE what EVERYONE makes...it inspires competition and a desire to achieve. So managers have to tell people why they're not worth what the other guy is worth. So? It's part of the job.)

Maybe it is no ones business but you don't have to come off being rude about it. Alot of people collect data on what comics go for what price to keep up with the market. ZWH is right. It really is not a big deal to divulge how much you paid. You afraid that the seller is going to come repo your books? Don't tell. No big deal. Just don't be rude about it.chainnball wrote:Other than the fact that it's really no one's business what I pay for my books...ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:Um.chainnball wrote:I told the seller I wouldn't divulge, sorry. I wasn't being rude. In fact I thought it was kind of rude to continue to ask what I paid. It is my choice to tell or not. I'm not obliged to tell anyone. I didn't see anyone bugging Svair to reveal what he paid for his Harby 1 find. Had someone pm'd me and said" hey, I'm collecting pricing data, do you mind telling me what you paid?", then I may have said something, but to act like it is your right to know, well, it's not.
Geez, I thought I'd share a cool find. Guess I'll just keep em to myself from now on.

I can't say I blame Brian for not wanting to disclose his purchase price for these Red's, he may be planning on selling them on ebay and sometimes, and I am not saying this is the case, but, potential bidders have weird feelings when they are bidding on something when they know what the sellers costs are. As a retailer I run into this all the time.chainnball wrote:I wasn't being rude. In fact I thought it was kind of rude to continue to ask what I paid. It is my choice to tell or not. Btw, John (svair) and I had lunch and spent some good time with Brian at the National last month, he's a good guy, for a noob, anyway

I am selling "nothing" on ebay-yet.

That's true... sales of multiple copies (even at auction) don't reflectD-Lite wrote:Pricing data for something like this is worthless anyways. It was obviously a special deal he got, so the data is meaningless and not representative of a market value.
a value for an individual issue... they are always discounted.
Additionally, since no one had a chance to bid, this would be considered
more of a "Buy It Now" price, or like getting books from a bargain bin,
even though we don't know what price was paid.
The "open market" wasn't involved.
Market averages (if I were still tracking them) wouldn't be affected...
though depending on what he does with them, market supply may be affected,
and could be reflected in future sales.
Before any rumors start, no, these books are not from my collection.
I haven't bought a Unity 0 Red since 2003... and I haven't sold one... ever.

OK,
I've decided, in the true holiday spirit, to auction off one of these books here for members. ALL proceeds will go directly to the charity of Greg's choice. In fact, you can pay Greg directly if you would like, assuming all this is ok with Greg. This book should grade high. I will put a post in the buy sell trade section later and we will run the auction for 7 days. You guys want a value, go set it!
Happy Holidays!

if i told the seller i'd keep the info private (board member or otherwise) then i'd do exactly as i said.chainnball wrote:I told the seller I wouldn't divulge, sorry.
i don't necessarily see the logic in such a request but if he asked for the favor and i agreed to it then it's a done deal.
i wouldn't divulge the info either...regardless of the circumstances.

Very generous!
I'd prefer if the money goes to the high bidder's choice of charity...
so it would definitely be spent on a cause the bidder finds worthy.
If that's agreeable, then the high bidder can pay chainnball,
and chainnball can ship the book and donate to the charity.
(Keeping it all as simple as possible.)

...Or Chainball could distribute the proceeds for some xmas toys and you could dress up like Santa and hand out the presents to some children.greg wrote:cinlach@aol.com wrote:good man!chainnball wrote:OK,

Never said it was.
I thought everyone knew that was a given.
But a lot of things that aren't REALLY anyone's business are shared here because we're all friends. It's what friends do.

Correction: you were asked ONCE, not continually. You were asked once by myself, and once by Rubiks, before you gave the "I'm not going to tell you" answer.chainnball wrote:I wasn't being rude. In fact I thought it was kind of rude to continue to ask what I paid.
Oh, they did ask him. But the odds are, he told them, so it didn't turn into a big deal.It is my choice to tell or not. I'm not obliged to tell anyone. I didn't see anyone bugging Svair to reveal what he paid for his Harby 1 find.
And how is asking once "how much?" equate to "bugging"?
Discussing your refusal to answer, by the way, isn't "bugging."
No one....not once...EVER....has stated, nor even implied, that it's anyone's RIGHT to know what you paid for them....Had someone pm'd me and said" hey, I'm collecting pricing data, do you mind telling me what you paid?", then I may have said something, but to act like it is your right to know, well, it's not.
But, let's clarify: it's no one's RIGHT to know what you paid for them.
Of course, that's not the issue, here.
Probably a good idea, if you're not willing to share what you paid when people ask.Geez, I thought I'd share a cool find. Guess I'll just keep em to myself from now on.
There's...truly....no reason to be stubborn and not share the information, other than now it's a "big deal."
It IS your right to not divulge...it's everyone else's right to ask. They don't have the right to an ANSWER, but they DO have the right to ask.
Rights work both ways.

A better way to handle it would have been to say "I'm sorry, I'd really love to tell you what was paid, but I PROMISED the seller I wouldn't, and I don't want to go back on that. Sorry.
