I think both those were great buys.

9.8 is TOUGH.

You're missing some bigger prices from the same seller...

Check it out

By the way, I have to hand it to xomatic for getting the "best deal"
(in my opinion) last night... Harbinger #1 CGC 9.6 for $45.68.
That book is probably the toughest Valiant to find in 9.6 or better condition.
People have already submitted 45 copies of Harbinger #1 to CGC...
only 9 copies (20%) have been 9.6 or higher (7 in 9.6, 2 in 9.8 ).

He got a CGC 9.6 graded copy for about the same price as two
non-graded Harbinger #1s. Wow!

I think a lot of the high prices are based on the idea that 9.8 is the "best"...
which is a good idea... but some books are much easier to find in 9.8
than others... and some books are tough to find in 9.6.

Great job, xomatic!

alright I do not understand what is going on...Rai 3 and 4 go for right around guide...3 maybe a little less 4 maybe a little more for 9.6 #1 goes for more than issue 3 but still close to guide and it is graded....but 3 is tougher to find..and 5 goes for an amazing 21 times guide....   wow...I really think that CGC prices are getting ridiculous...21 times NM guide? oh and that is the guide from this site...anyone OS and wizard probably do not even list it....maybe OS....anyone know...

What caught my attention about last night's CGC auctions
was that the "big dollars" only applied to CGC 9.8 books.
Buyers like aug002 and rotphungte seem to be ignoring CGC 9.6 books.

This is good news, because CGC 9.6 books are very nice books...
I won't mind a bit if I can soon buy CGC 9.6 pre-Unity Valiants
for the same price as an ungraded copy and CGC fees/shipping.
It's like getting a guaranteed 9.6 without having to submit them myself!

(By the way, if you use the link above that lists all those auctions,
you will want to click on the auction to get the final price...
some of those prices in the list are not finals.)

any story on those two...they seem to pop up drop some serious coin and the disappear for a little bit...I know that they do not lose many auctions...they seem to know what they want and then go after it...I know that I will never really bid with them on anything...but you are right about the 9.6...I dare anyone try and pick out a 9.8 vs a 9.6 10 times outta 10...meaning a 10 books sitting there some are 9.8 and some are 9.6 and you gotta pick all ten correctly....I doubt that it can be done...I think that we have had this talk though....I know that I could not tell the difference between the two..

Which makes NO SENSE! Rai 3 is far rarer than 5...well now that I think about it maybe it is because of the dark cover of 5...plus it is a sweet cover...floating swords...how sweet...

Hi, this is my first post guys. I was watching those auctions also and have been monitoring this site for the last few weeks. I am trying to decide if I should cgc a large amount of pre unity valiants I have that I bought when they first came out. I have several Harbinger 1's, probably only one with the coupon intact, should I bother to cgc these without the coupon, same with Solar's and XO's. My personal favorite was always EW because I thought this was some of BWS nicest work, much better than his Marvel crap. I never bought Magnus because I didn't really care for the book, although as a collector I regretted it later. I have all the Unity stuff, some special editions, 6 Harbinger 0 pinks, 1 blue signed, 4 of the Pinks are only in VF condition as I bought them online about 5 years ago and the idiot shipped them in an envelope and they got a spine crease. I have auctioned quite a few books on ebay lately and don't know if it's time to move some of these yet or not. I always new the pre unity's would come back-the overstreet thing is just the beginning I think.

if you think that you can get back 9.8, 9.9, or 10.0 then yes. If not then No. Look at the prices of those books that just sold...only the 9.8s are getting up there in price..the 9.6 books sold for about guide which means that you would probably be losing money or at the best breaking even...getting a book graded is probably going to cost you 25-30 dollars..including shipping both ways and the discount that you can get through submitting through some online places(heritage and metropolis I believe) so if you think that your book would be worth 30 more then get it graded if not then dont..most preunity books ungraded do alright in auction though...go back and look at your books and see if you can notice ANYTHING wrong with them...if you see one little crease or blunted corner or anything then the book probably is not 9.8 or better...if you had some really good looking Rai 0's I would suggest that you submitt them though

Welcome to the boards!

I'm not sure what you meant by "same with Solar's and X-O's"...
Those books didn't have any coupons.
Maybe you meant that you have several...

Since I'm taking it that you haven't used CGC before, it's probably a
good idea to pick out the 5 pre-Unity books that you own which are
in the absolute BEST condition... and send those in as a test sample.
If you get all 9.8s or 9.6s... you'll know what books to send in the future.
If the grades are lower, you'll save money because you only sent 5.

You can pick whatever titles you like... but it's probably more important
that you pick the best pre-Unity books regardless of title, in order to
get a feel for what CGC is looking for.

If the crease is in the top left corner (very top left), then it might not
be the seller's fault on shipping... many copies of that book have a tiny
crease (indention) on the top left.

Again, welcome!

Aug002 has been a heavy hitter on the more expensive Valiants for quite awhile now. If your bidding on him, you might as well give it up. I went head to head with him on a Harbinger #0 Pink last year, & he won the bidding at about $280.00, or so. If your a seller, he's a great guy to do business with. I have'nt seen him bid too much in the last few months, so maybe he's back again.

Looks like Overstreets announcement is starting to affect the market.

www.CGCComics.com

When you are ready to submit your books, you can get a 20% discount
if you use a "referrer" like www.ComicsPriceGuide.com.
http://www.cgccomics.com/index_cobrand. ... filiate=cp

You still send your books directly to CGC...
it's just that you get a nice discount because of the referral.

Thanks for the thought's guys, I have some experience with CGC and have had books graded through entered through Comiclink in the past. Mostly silver age stuff. On the few modern age books I have had graded I found them to be extra tough on.

The crease on Harbinger pinks are mid to lower spine if I remember, just above the staple. Those are packed away in storage somewhere.

Check this auction out.

Aug002 is at it again. Unity red at 9.6 but it is qualified. Aug's bid seems rather high for a qualified book. :?:

Pretty cool, but greg has done an excellent job on this site pertaining to CGC Valiant Comics. (Gregs is much easier to navigate)

Yesterday, I received Unity #1 Gold and Unity #1 Platinum in CGC 9.6
(I bought them from the same seller, I've been waiting for them to arrive.)

These books are absolutely perfect, as far as I can see, front and back,
fantastic corners... no marks at all on the spine... and they're "only" CGC 9.6.

I will be watching the CGC 9.6 Valiant auctions very closely now...
if the prices are falling on CGC 9.6... that's excellent news.
(In other words, don't get too caught up in the 9.8-mania.)

Oh Mighty Administrator, please grant me your knowledge...

I have a Unity #1 Platinum and some early Harbingers back on the mainland that have been board and bagged in boxes for years now and should be in excellent condition. I want to send them to CGC and get them graded. If they come back as hight 8s or low 9s, should I just rip them out of the cases and just bag and board them again since I'll get the same amount for them?

This is an interesting question...
I would probably not ever take a book out of a CGC slab,
no matter how low the grade.

If a book like Unity #1 Platinum is CGC graded 8.5 (VF Condition)...

Would it be worth more as a CGC graded 8.5 VF book?
Or would it be worth more as an "ungraded" VF book?

Obviously, it would probably be worth more if it was Near Mint, but it's not.
With hindsight, it probably shouldn't have been graded if the grading fees
do not help the value of the book. But it "has been" graded... so...

Once we've resigned ourselves to the fact that the book is VF,
I'd still vote for the one in the CGC holder... if the "cost" was the same.
