Yup, and a MOTA set went for nearly $200. Not bad:Zero wrote:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... &rd=1&rd=1whetteon wrote: http://cgi.ebay.com/Bloodshot-0-GOLD-La ... dZViewItem

CGC graded books are a "smaller market" because you have to know what CGC is... which rules out some potential buyers.Zero wrote:I just don't get how I can get a CGC 9.8 of a book & at almost the same time the book goes HIGHER raw in another auction. It's just madness...
Then you have to agree that CGC is right for you... which rules out some more potential buyers.
Anytime a book sells for "a whole lot more" than it normally does,
you can assume that the bidder(s) aren't aware of "normal".
Anyone who's not aware of "normal" doesn't fit normal patterns/logic/expectations... except by chance.
You're really asking, "Why do some people pay so much for things that normally sell for so much less?"
If there was any logical answer to that question, QVC would be out of business.

1. Takes two to drive a bid up. Assuming no schilling, two people who don't know what they are bidding on are bidding.
2. I was going to do something making fun of people who prefer PGX over CGC... but PGX pretty much makes fun of itself.

This one http://cgi.ebay.com/Rai-3-CGC-9-8_W0QQi ... dZViewItem went even cheaper.Jay Tomio wrote:Yeah it was - a mistake on my part.*SQUEE* wrote:Thought that was a Rai #3. I was bidding on it.Jay Tomio wrote:Sorry no link, but yesterday I saw someone grab a Rai#4 9.8 for like $115.00 on the bay.
At any rate it was won on the cheap. People who are seeking it really missed out.
As far as Rai #3 CGC 9.8s go, that's a pretty good price, but as far as I'm concerned, that's still pretty steep for a Rai #3 when raws haven't been going for much more than $20 lately. Usually I pass when I see high grade slabs because I'm not interested in paying a premium.
I missed this particular auction, but these are the ones I try to stick to:

Paying for the slab is as much about paying for the privilege of assuring getting what you paid for in a grade that is essentially recognized by the industry. Obviously there is human error at time but for the overwhelming majority of the time a 9.6 plus CGC books is what I would consider a HG book and one I'm pleased with. I have actually found it cheaper just to buy the slab than to go hit and miss the raw route with lots.

Thanks for posting all those links, made for some very insightful research.
I think it's too early to tell how our books values are going to be affected by the HC but we can be sure that if a dozen or so old fans show up on ebay (at the same time) trying to get a set or worse yet horde some of the rares... we're going to see some serious price increases. I for one wouldn't mind if the old fans stayed away for a few more years.
Realistically I can see at least a few hundred new people investing a decent chunk of change to secure a Valiant Set w/ Rares. It's just the practical thing to do once you have the epiphany that Valiant was the $hit!
I personally will start getting worried when the rare golds are consistently fetching $80-100. Until then all we're seeing is the natural ebb and flow of ebay speculation. Once they get their fill they'll move on or take a break. Even mad men look at their horde and say to themselves, "self, you need to slow down on the Valiants." If not they end up divorced and living in a VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER!!!

I don't know. I recognize that high bidder name as bidding on valiant books for a while. Wierd that the bidder would pay that much.mobstirr wrote:Talk about hype! Check out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... &rd=1&rd=1

Not a bad price, but does anyone recognize the name of the winner?

Rai 2 and a run of Shadowman from 0 to 33 for $26. I've seen Rai 2 by itself go nearly that high.
